What changes can be made to your disney hotel reservation after deposit? If changes are allowed, is there a cut-off date?

Changes can be made up until final payment is due (45 days) without any penalty. This is for a package, room only is around 5 days before arrival date.

Information about changes and cancellations should be right on your confirmation letter.

Changes can always be made, based on availability. If within 45 days and the change results in a lower cost, you will be charged a fee. $50 or $100 depending on timing. If the change results in an increase in cost you will not be charged a fee.

So if I book a room only reservation on the special deal they have now and decide to add tickets and the dining plan a week before we leave I won't be charged a fee? Will they cancel my existing room only reservation or will it stay the same and become a package?

To answer the second question first, to add dining and tickets changes a room only reservation to a package. They will book a new package, and cancel your room only reservation.

Which brings me to the first question - generally, you will not be charged a fee to change a room only to a package. Remember that changes to room only reservations can be made up to 5 days before arrival. However, it is possible that 1) the deal you booked was only available for a room-only or 2) the deal is no longer available, and since they have to re-book, you may lose your deal.

If you think you may want to turn a room-only into a package later, it may be worth it to book a package initially by adding a one-day ticket. That will require a $200 deposit, but would allow you to make multiple changes.
