Hi Everybody;

We are going on a family vacation w/DH's entire family in June to Nags Head/Outer banks N. Carolina. There will be about 19 of us going. We have rented a house on the beach for everybody for the week.

None of us have ever been to Nags Head. There will be 6 kids going. If anyone has any details about this area, things to do, places to go, good restaurants etc...I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks So Much In advance!!!

We've been going to Nags Head for years, we've stayed all over the island, but we like the area around Nags Head the best. There really isn't a lot to do, it's a very quiet, relaxing beach. Over the last couple of years, they have torn down alot of hotels and built big houses for large family vacations. There are beautiful homes along the beach.

There is a nice aquariam (sp) on the island. The Wright Brothers museum. There is an area near museum you can hang glide. There are a couple of nice light houses you can drive to. There is a ferry you can take to the mainland. If there a fishermen in your group, you can charter a fishing boat, great fishing. There a lot of water sports. You can rent jetskis, it's really nice on the sound side because the water is very calm. Not a lot of shopping, a small strip of outlets.

There a lots of local restaurants, until 2 years ago there wasn't any chain restaurants but now there a few.

One of our favorites is called "Tale of the Whale", it's just before you get to the bridge that takes you to Manteo. Lots of seafood. A place called "Dirty Dicks" sells a lot of take out peel and eat shrimp and other seafood. It's very good, they now have a restaurant but we like their orginial take out stand the best. Almost all restaurant have early bird specials around 4-6. Most place get very crowded after 6:00.

If you cross the bridge and go to Manteo, it's a cute little town. Andy Griffith lives here, they have a nice downtown shopping area, close to water and light house. A lot of specialty shops.

The beaches are wonderful and never very crowded. We go in July and the water last year was like bath water. There isn't a board walk. There are no sitting lifeguards, but they drive a 4-wheeler by every hour or so.

I can't think of anything else right now. Any questions, ask away.

We have also been there.. In our opinion... the area is great and there is a ton of stuff to do. However.. We have also been to Topsail Island...
It was SOOOOOO much nicer.. The houses were just as nice and the beach is alot nicer... the sand ,, the water,, riptides... not near as many people..
dont get me wrong.. we had a great time at the outer banks.. but we will not be going back... After experiencing Topsail.. It is now our beach New beach vacation spot...
