What can you tell me about Dishnetwork/DirectTv? {which is better??}

We have been comparing the two to put into our new place since either one will be cheaper than cable there. We were referred to DirectTV by someone who lives there. We got brochures from both satellite systems and DirectTV seems to have much more than Dish. Also, in Sunday's paper, in the USA WEEKEND(little family section part), it has an advertisement for DirctTV for 29.99(reg.39.99) for the first 6 months. This would be the Total Choice with Local Channels Plan. It also says that you would get free system and installation on up to 4 rooms and a free DVD player. As soon as we are approved by the neighborhood association committe to get it, we are going to set up installation. I can't wait. It has the Travel Channel, The Disney Channel(E&W) and Gameshow Network, all of which we don't have on cable right now.

Geez I wish I had this add!! I like cheaper and I like more channels :)

We have DirectTV with TIVO and we love it. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/209.gif' border=0></a> We can set up it to record any TV shows we like throughout the season and it does it automatically.

DirectTV with the Starz/Encore package(all the normal channels plus the movies) Can;t wait since Starz got POTC

We have DirecTV w/ TiVo built in. Words can not express how much I love it!! TiVo is the greatest.

Yup, you can tape 2, although if you are going to watch tv at the same time, you do have to watch one of the two shows. You can, however, watch a DVD or Video at the same time 2 shows are taping. Gotto love it!

Yes, we do all the time. ::yes::

Showtime and HBO are both wonderful for their original programming.

Total Choice Premier cost us $91
HD Pkg is $11
East Coast Feed $1.50/each channel (ABC, NBC, CBS, & FOX)
DirecTV Guide - $40
Each Receiver - $5.00
DVR (TiVO) - $5.00

You can get the deal for new subscribers through CircuitCity or BestBuy - or you can look on the Directv site and see what they're recent offering is. The latest current subscriber deal we got was adding Total Choice Premier and getting the monthly tivo free (we have 2 tivos so it was quite a savings there). I would highly advise looking for the deals and not just adding the service - you can save a lot of money. ::yes::

Wow.... I didn't know you could tape TWO shows with the TIVO.... we can only record one with our Dishnetwork DVR..... but we have two of them so we DO record two shows at a time:p !...P

Thanks for asking the question, and thanks to all who answered! I was about to ask the same thing. We will not have cable available at the new log home, so I was trying to decide between Dish and Direct as well. Looks like Direct is winning!

:p Your welcome. I'm still deciding. I have about 3 weeks before I *must* decide :teeth:
