What can my Teenage son do today!?

I like the board game party, but that's probably because I love playing board games.

Laserquest? Its a laser tag place.
Swimming at the Y?
Roller skating (I hear it is back "In")

Is there any indoor mini golf spots or rock climbing centres?

I woke my 14yodd up and we took the dogs for a walk for almost 2 hours this morning!:hyper:

Good exercise all around for us!

I haven't read all the post, but this is what we did at 14...

played pool at a pool hall
roller skating
movies
went to someone's house
went out to eat
sledding (depending on where you live)
bowling
I really enjoyed the mall just for something to do
walk around
I know i did more things and just don't remember it was so long ago, but I was never bored when I just had people over to hang out.

Great ideas. I'm off to take my DD to cheer but will further investigate these ideas. Never ehard of the Rc thing. I will have to look into that.

DS14 is not bored, I just want to keep him from getting there and keep him active.

Thanks again! I have really enjoyed reading these!

How about getting him to put together a small aquarium. Once it is completed, have each of your child pick a fish and the entire family can enjoy it.
He can draw up plans on what he wants it to look like, take him to the store so that he can figured out his budget, and then he can put it together.
This could be very rewarding for him.

The skating rink is a big hang-out for kids that age where we live. Also, kids play basketball at the Y and swim.

DH took DS13 to buy another Lego set this morning. DH ended up buying a 2nd set for him. They then met me at a restaurant for lunch (lobster special). Stopped on the way home and picked up 3 (2 for DS) DVDs at Blockbuster. Then stopped at KMart for another Pirates tin.

Really not trying to pick on you, but (you knew there would be a but, right? ;) ) I sometimes have to help my 6yo come up with ideas to do since he gets bored, but even he's pretty good at entertaining himself. But I never have to come up with things for my older boys to do. They are 12 and 15yo and have entertained themselves for years doing all kinds of things, from cooking to reading to video games to playing basketball to playing guitar to the computer to picking on each other to tormenting their younger brother to chores around the house (that's when they pick on each other or torment their younger brother LOL) to playing keyboard to making techno music to having friends over to watching a sports game... They generally have different interests and don't do these things together so it's not like they are entertaining each other (they do sometimes, but not a lot--very different interests).

I'm looking for something fun and a bit out of the ordinary. If you read my post that is just a few posts before yours I said that he is not bored. I like to expose my kids to new experiences and get away from the routine things they do. We have friend's over on the weekends and do the vidoe game thing, play guitar and all that. My son just finished the last Terry Goodkind book that he has written.

I just posted to get some fresh fun ideas.

Thanks

Poker is now popular. You can get some poker chips from Walmart for about $4 and then you just need a pack of cards. I find playing cards seems to help with your math skills as well. Crib is also fun to play.

Well today he ended up inviting two friends over. They ended up just hanging out here for awhile. The three of them decided to go bowling -again. We drove around to several different bowling allys but they were all packed with waits of over an hour. I decided to let them have a fire in the fire pit out on our deck and let them cook over the open fire. They had a blast doing that. It was a bit on the cold side and they had to keep running inside but there was a lot of laughing going on. They were really excited about having the fire.
After dinner I took them to see The Date Movie. They loved it!

Thanks for all the ideas. Sounds like we might be shopping tom for aquarium and poker stuff- both great ideas!

Tommorow we may go to the Art Museum- we've been there hundreds of times though. I think some of Rembrandt is on tour there right now. That will be a little different from the norm.

Keep the ideas coming!

Do you have a video camera? My DS (13) took a video class last year where the kids learned basic techniques such as claymation. Your DS could get together with his friends and make their own mini movie: write a story, plan the scenes, etc.

He's made alot of movies over the years with his lego eb camera. He has really had a lot of fun with it. He and his friend's used to spend hours making these really short movies. They were always fun to watch. He has now passed the camera on to his younger brother. Every so often they will play with it together but DS just got tired of it I guess.

Thanks for the idea though. Maybe I will suggest he get it out again and make a movie with his brother.

An indoor skating rink, maybe roller blading rink. Great activity for boys at that age.

I wish we could do the outdoor fire place here.We are in a condo and I think that might just get us evicted! My folks have one and he loves that too.Great idea. My DS ended up playing games at a friends house and DD went to the new "dog" movie, sorry its before coffee and the name escapes me. She thought it was awesome. :coffee:

Thankfully today he has "big" plans. He and several other boys are going to Cosi and then spending the night in Columbus. Another mother will be taking them. My younger DD5 and I have athree hour mother daughter scrap book workshop today and my other son and DH are going sking.

I might go out and look for some new board games today too. We have some for older kids and adults but I have not bought anything for older kids lately.

Thanks for all the ideas. Hopefully this thread will help other parents of teens. Great idea's for a down time day!
