What can I expect from BWV Std. view?

I know this question has probably been asked a million times...I did search honestly :). But I'm wondering if someone can give me a little information about the BWV Std. Views. This is our first trip home to BWV and we booked standard since quite honestly we don't plan to be in the room much in the evenings to really enjoy that "view". LOL! But I would love to be prepared for what to expect when we head out on that balcony.

Is std. view typically parking lot? Are there some really awful std. views or are they pretty much the same?

Thanks in advance :flower: .

I don't think anyof the standard views could be classified as awful. Expect to overlook the front entrance and the driveway leading up to it. You will be able to see the parking lots (in the distance) and the bus stop as well as the BWI wing. There is a lot of very nice landscaping, flowers/lawn area between the rooms and the blacktop areas. Some rooms also overlook a small pond with a fountain. There are often ducks and other birds in this area.

It's JMHO, but I think BWV standard view rooms are a bargain!

Best wishes -

We always get a standard view and you look at the Entrance driveway, bus stop area, little pond and grassy area near tennis courts. All in all not bad at all....and if you get an upper floor across form the bus stop you get a view of the Epcot fireworks...

I LOVE MY STANDARD VIEW!!!

We always book standard view -- the only time we didn't like the "view" was when we had a studio that overlooked the red shed. They've destroyed it so that won't be a problem. Other views with standard that we have had were of the entrance and bus stop. There is a LOT of distance between you and the entrance and/or bus stop. We've always been pleased, except for the red building. Hope you have a great trip.

I think the "red shed" area is actually preferred view. I know that in the past, they sometimes put some standard view bookings there - mostly when portions of the standard view "wing" were in rehab. Now that the shed is gone and a new croquet lawn is going in, I predict it will return to be only preferred view. I think it will actually be a nice view - garden, lawn and canal. Anyway, I think that few if any standard view bookings will end up there in the future.

Best wishes-

Here is the view from our Standard View 1BR in 1999 and 2002. Yes, we got the same unit twice!

WOW, Robin - that must have been quite a hike to the elevator.

We went in Sept 04 and got a room about 3 doors down from the valet area. Convenient, and yes, a very entertaining spot to people watch. :rotfl2:

We were not at the end of the building ... but we could see it from there!

The advantage of that room is that it was right near the elevator to the walkway over to the bus stop. We didn't have to go though the lobby.

I know you meant to type "stairway" (rather than elevator), but thought I'd mention it in case it leads someone who isn't familiar with the BWV to think that there is more than one bank of elevators. As we "old timers" know, the BWV only has one set of elevators, and they are just off the lobby.

I have enjoyed my views more with a standard view -than the preferred view - I got so sick of that silly Clown....

:) Thanks for all the great replies. I wasn't too worried...but now I'm more excited than ever :hyper:.

And robinb....your daughter is so cute, love that bitty baby in the picture. And my daughter had that same dress! Just had to mention it :D.

Robin,
Thank you so much for that photo....now I think I understand how people could be on the back side of BWV and still see Illuminations! Would I be right in assuming that the fireworks are over the top of the BWI wing in your photo? And is that little spire to the right of the entry but to the left of the spires and in the far background....is that the Eiffel Towel????

Boy the lobby looks FAR away! Now I understand why some people have complained about the long walks! I love walking but admit that after a long day of walking at the parks, I just kinda wanna be HOME.

Two questions:
If I asked for a room near the walkway to the busstop....would they understand that I meant a room fairly near yours? And, is that stairway good for both entry and exit...meaning that if I parked my car (I'm assuming parking is off to the right of the photo across the little canal bridge?, that I could get to my room from parking by going up the stairs as opposed to going all the way back to the lobby?

Thanks!

We have fallen in love with the SV. Both times we have been one hallway section down from the elevator - right in front of the entrance. The lawn expanse is large enough to create a buffer area. With the door to the porch closed, you do not hear any traffic noise.

I'm not sure I will stay in the BoardWalk view any more, the SV was so nice and I would take the SV anyday over the main pool - that was really noisy!

Yes, you can use the stairway as both an exit and entrance, but keep in mind it's a fire escape so it's not pretty (people have posted complaints, but keep in mind it's main function is a fire escape, most fire escapes are not carpeted and decorated). If you are on the 4th floor, it's quite a few steps up. I think the distance from the lobby is overblown, it's quite a walk to some of the buildings at OKW from bus stops.

Yes, it is :). You see IllumiNations right over the BWI wing.

Here's a close up:

It does take a while to get to your room :rolleyes2. The walk is one of the charms of BWV. C'est la vie.

Oh I am excited NOW...I will ask for a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower!!!!!
I love it!!!! :flower:
(I just hated the thought of asking for a room overlooking the busstop...what do the res agents in KANSAS think about that????).

As for parking...I will probably opt for the luxury and low cost of valet parking anyway...but in the mornings when I am full of energy sometimes I just like to run down the stairs and be off in my car.

Just found out my Dd will probably be joining me on our first trip post DVC purchase. And it is Mother's Day...so I am excited!
And I really like this view...only I think I might have to try a BWroom at least once before I croak.

Actually you would have better luck stating you wanted a room across from the bus stop. The room assigners probably haven't a clue that the view actually includes the Eiffel tower

The bus stop is about halfway down the BWV hallway (across the street), just a point of reference. It is in the picture robinb posted, there's a bus parked. I agree with zurgswife, the eiffel tower is not on the resort map so they will have no clue. Top floor is a key request, if they put you on the first floor, you will not have a good view. One time I requested fireworks view and ended up with a room assigned on the first floor (when I booked it, member services said there are no fireworks views, which I knew was wrong but that should have been a clue not to word the request that way), luckily they had a room open on the 4th floor that turned out to be perfect. So it's better to say "top floor, across from the bus stop". That way you will be on the side of the building that faces the fireworks.

I much rather have standard view. Not only is it lower points but I like that it is quite.

Last year we had a direct Boardwalk view and a quite pool view. I though it was too noisey over looking the Boardwalk at night and I had view of a nice big tree on the quite pool side, so there I say nothing but green leaves.

So if it's available I also ask for standard view first.

The standard view I had at the BWVs overlooked the front entrance, the driveway up to the front entrance. I kind of liked watching all the activity at the front entrance, with people coming and going, and limos etc. The lights around the front entrance were also pretty at night.

But I am not much of a worrier about view. If you are the type who really likes to have a really "picturesque" view, then you are taking your chances with a standard view, because it could be parking lot type views too.
