What can I expect AFTER Gall Bladder Surgery?

Also can I ask, has anyone ever had pain from their bra? Reason I ask is that the pain I have had I was putting down to Shingles (I've had it before and it's in the same area), but once I learned that I had gallstones and where the gall bladder is situated I figured the pain I was getting from my bra was not Shingles, but the gall bladder. Just curious to know if anyone else has experienced anything like this.

A lot of the pain I was having before surgery was right on the bra line, especially around the back. After the surgery I was somewhat swollen so that wearing a bra was uncomfortable.

T&B, not everyone has the digestive problems. I did have several "gotta go" spells right after surgery but things have been pretty normal now for the past week to 10 days. This board is so big that you're going to find people who have had problems no matter what the operation. I had a terrible time when I had my thyroid removed 6 years ago but I've never met anyone else who went through the things I did. :confused3

Last night I ate chicken enchiladas made with chilies and salsa and cheese. No problems! Like another poster said, you can live with digestive problems (if that even happens) but not a gangrenous gallbladder.

First, good luck with the surgery!:)

I had my GB out in July of 2005. Emergency surgery, never had an attack before and all of a sudden, I was sicker than I've ever been. That thing was LOADED with stones and very inflamed. Yuck.:scared:

Afterward, I was in some pain from the incisions and it was difficult to get up from a sitting or reclining position for a couple days - that passed quickly with the pain meds.:thumbsup2

I restricted my fats for the first month - basically, I ate almost none. Slowly, I added them back in, and now I can eat just about anything, but if I eat too much fat, then I pay with GI miseries.;)

My mom had hers out about15 years ago and still has problems with the bathroom thing. I had mine out about 1 yr ago, aparently, its quite a common problem for pregnant women and new moms. Anyhow, I was back to normal within a couple of days. I didnt have stithes or staples or anything, they used a butterfly bandage on mine, i think. One of my scars is pretty big though. I had a stone the size of a golf ball.......well, probably not that big, but it was huge! You should be okay as long as you rest alot, try not to do alot of walking.
Ugh. I have been doing MORE walking trying to keep my lungs clear and prevent leg clots(have bad varicose veins). I cant eat normally. I am worried about our April trip. What if we are in line and I gotta go NOW!

So, is this urgency thing only an issue after you eat or at any given moment? I should've stopped reading a long time ago. This thread is not selling the surgery for me.

What a conversation.

You're telling me...I'm having some pain now, but it's not like I've had any terrible flares. What if I end up worse off? :scared:

I thought the same thing but finally understood that the "worst thing" would be getting my pancreas involved because I didn't get the GB out. That's a real no win situation.

Having a full blown attack was horrible but it absolutely made me realize that my gallbladder had to go. Trust me, you don't want to wait on having this out and then have one of those. :scared1:

T&B - I maybe joining this group. I will be having the ultrasound on Thursday to see if I have a GB problem. If I do I am planning on having it removed ASAP so that I do not end up with an emergency operation. I figure the healthier that I am when I go the better chance I have of a quicker recovery. I am not having pain but did have a sever fever (the fever went away without any meds) and some abdominal swelling. I have yet to have an attack and hope to keep it that way.

A fever? Hmmm, I didn't know it could cause a fever. I had a low grade fever last weekend...with a massive headache. That's it. No other symptoms (other than my normal reflux and gallbladder issues). It was weird. Now I'm wondering if it could've been caused by these issues.

It is possible. I saw my Dr., on Friday, and he said that some people will run a fever with a GB. BTW he would press on my stomach and I had no pain. So he said I am not in a rush but not to leave it go too long.

That's what mine told me. He said he's not rushing me in for surgery, but if I have another attack I should call him and he'll send me right away.

My dr doesn't want to wait until the gallbladder is inflamed and I'm having attacks before doing the operation. Those are the people who end up in the ER with vomiting and fever and really wish they'd done it before that attack (if they had warning). We're trying to avoid that. I have daily discomfort and some pain--sometimes minor and sometimes more. I'm having to watch what I eat more and more and this is from someone who does not eat a lot of fat.

For me, the urgency is usually within a very short time of eating, first meal of the day especially. But...it has and it can, hit you anytime. I have to say though, I find the more active I am the better it is. My last two trips to Disney I had very little problems. I'm guessing due to all the water and walking. Maybe that's just me though?

Silly Me, You know what I do for a living and let me tell you, lunch on the road is my worst enemy unless I am somewhere that has a restroom nearby. In my rural area, that is not usually the case. Oh, and my boss and I love to go out for Chinese but I don't plan anything for at least an hour after that!

Can you all tell me the symptoms you experienced prior to the surgery?

I had my surgery on a Thursday, by Monday I was out and about and was back to work that Thursday. Everyone is different. I was working out again two weeks post op, just light cardio, no strength training, I had to wait six weeks for that. While I was OKAY after a week, I didn't really feel back to myself until two weeks.

I have had NO FOOD ISSUES post surgery. In fact I went out for Mexican on the Monday I was out and about (lunch and a movie).

Good luck with the surgery.

On one hand I'm ready to cancel the surgery, but on the other hand, this morning I've been in the most pain I've ever been in for a morning (usually the pain is more in the afternoon and evening). I'm sure I'll keep my date with Dr Hunk.

Please do not cancel. Not everyone has issues after surgery. I have NONE, ZERO issues. And if you do have issues, it's better than an infection of your gallbladder or gallbladder cancer. Oh one other thing, at your follow-up visit don't be surprised with the surgeon tells you your gallbladder was cancer free. I never even thought of that, and :scared1: Glad it was good news.

I agree with Miss Jasmine. Don't postpone the surgery! You'll be worse off in the long run if you wait.

Going in for my surgery in the AM. Prayers and pixie dust would be much appreciated! :)

Gifts of flowers and Depends can be sent directly to the hospital or to our room at OKW! ;)

Thanks!

Best wishes for your surgery tomorrow! I had surgery on the 25th of September and by the 28th I was walking around, shopping, lifting... everything. The only problem I had was coming out of anesthesia but I've always had problems with that. Mine was done lap and recovery was SO easy! Not a single problem with any incision either.

Take it easy at Disney if you must, but definitely go! You'll enjoy being in the sunshine, and it's not so crowded or so hot this time of year. Just definitely use a wheelchair or ECV if you need it :)

Best wishes again!
