I've upgraded from a nikon D80 to a 7100 and haven't even put the battery in it yet and now wondering about changing my camera strap. Need one thats comfortable/secure/breathable/fit for a woman.

Have been using a promaster neck strap for my 80 and most times have it over my shoulder...I'm tired of my neck taking a beating and it also gets hot in the summertime....but..it has served me well.

Seems like people are buying straps like the joby, black rapid (a zillion models), luma with bracket/tripod strap mount. Visions of my upside down hanging camera really scare me !!! :scared:

Reading these types of stories:
I finally got the chance to use my xxxx. At first I was loving it, it is much more comfortable and agile than the factory straps that come with my camera. So glad I chose to put it on my lower end camera (D300) for it's test run. After using it in a wedding situation for a couple of hours, the base that I had tightly connected came disconnected and my camera fell to the ground shattering my long lens just as the wedding was getting started.

So....Please tell me what you use and if your happy with it??
HELP??
What do you think....maybe I should just use what I have..:upsidedow

Thanks,
Carol

I love my Crumpler Industry Disgrace. It distributes weight well, breathes nicely and will let me wear it around my neck, over my shoulder, or slung across my body.

I've also read the stories about cameras falling from straps that use the tripod mount. I've seen tripod mounts give out in other situations, so that does happen. But on the other hand I've talked with numerous people that use them heavily and have no problems, you'll find quite a few on this board. It's not a direction I'd go personally, but many people do use them with no issues.

OP Tech is also another great brand, I have a few of those although I don't like them as well as my Crumpler.

Just dont buy one of these - it could lead to an addiction :)

I have a Black Rapids RS-7 that I've been using for about 5 years. Never had an issue with it even when carrying my D300 with battery grip, 24-70 f/2.8 lens & the SB-900 flash.

More recently I've been carrying around my D700 with 70-200 f/2.8 lens walking around a ski resort taking pictures of skiers coming down the bottom of the slopes.

Last fall I used the double Black Rapid strap with my D300 (w/battery grip) & 70-200 f/2.8 on one side and the D700 with the 24-70 f/2.8 & SB-900 on the other side. Very comfortable on an all day outdoor photo shoot.

I'm a Black Rapid person! They now have them in many shapes and they have recently released an additional tether for those that have the fear that something will happen to the strap and drop their camera.

Most of the time, I carry two cameras with long lenses in places others would never take theirs. Being a motorsports photographer my cameras go where there is flying mud, snow, flying rubber and engine parts, running up and down pit roads, ducking and running from crashing vehicles, etc. Knock on wood, I have not yet dropped a camera because of a strap failure.

Edit: I also just found another safety accessory:

I switch back and forth between these 2 straps for my D7000

This wrist strap when I want to be real mobile, like running, or crawling around / kneeling a lot.

Or when just walking around I use a classic black rapid strap.

My only negatives, with both of these is the fact that something is sticking out the bottom of the camera in the tripod mount. So if I want to put the camera on a trash can for a family picture (timer), or at night when i want to do a long exposure without a tripod. I always have to remove the mount so the camera will set flat.

But i never worry about it dropping in either mount.

WOW !! Many Thanks for all your suggestions!! I think I need to try these out at my local photo store...maybe this weekend. :thumbsup2

If you join Canon Professionals Services, not only will you receive great benefits such as free sensor cleanings, discounts on repairs and priority service for fast turnaround times, but it comes with an excellent strap. (as well as other cool stuff in a welcome package.) It's Padded and wide for extra comfort.

I've got the CPS strap too. The neck padding is actually very similar to my Crumpler in feel, except it doesn't breathe. The funny thing is at one time they actually had a Crumpler Industry Disgrace version of the CPS strap. I think the current one is an OP Tech strap.

I just replaced my Canon strap (the one that came with my T3i) with The Crumpler Industry Disgrace and I really like it.

I bought the UP Strap last year and I love it. I did have some reservations about comfort because part that would be padded on some of the others is actually made of rubber, but I'm really happy with it. I was also nervous about using the tripod mount which was the only thing deterring me from getting the Black Rapid, although had the tether come out a month or so sooner (maybe it did and I wasn't aware of it) I would have probably gone with that quite happily. I like the clasps on mine that allow a quick release to remove the strap from the camera so if I don't want movement in a situation where it's windy and I'm doing long exposures, I don't have to mess around with threading straps in and out of the D-rings. I'm useless with those and it takes me forever :rotfl:
