What buildings are open at SSR, which to request?

Now, after panning SSR and reading all the posts from people who have been there, we are thinking of trying it out. Does anyone know what buildings are open. I called and MS said that there were studios available from April 23 to 30th at SSR.

I really trust the people on this forum and perhaps we will go there. Which buildings face the quiet pool.

Which building should we request if we can get in.

Check out the resort map here at Doc's website:

All four buildings in Congress Park, which appear toward the lower right of the map, are open. The quiet pool is right between the center two buildings. If you are in either one of those two buildings, you will probably see the pool right off of your balcony, with Downtown Disney off in the distance.

By the end of April, one, perhaps two of the buildings in The Springs will be open as well. The Springs is the group of three buildings right about the center of the map. These buildings provide the easiest access to the main pool, Artist's Palette, Spa, golf course, etc.

Hi Patpat15,

We'll be staying at SSR during the same time, arriving Apr 24 through 29th. We have booked 1 -2bdrm and 2 studios. We are having a family get together. :grouphug: We've stayed at SSR before during Labor Day 04. Rode out Hurricane Francis there. :umbrella:

We liked the resort so much  we added on there. Our home resort is VWL.

We stayed in one of the end buildings facing the DVC offices. The quiet pool was great and my grandson (11) really enjoyed the themed pool. Artist Pallet didn't have the best food as far as I was concerned but it was ok? Guest Services staff were the best. The childrens club was pretty good. They had allot of activities for the kids to do.

Come and enjoy, no matter what room you get, you will truly enjoy yourself.

Do you like SSR as much as WLV? We own at BWV but our favorite is WLV. Having never stayed at SSR, how does it compare.

And was your building closer to the DTD bridge or the other side.

Thanks

Pat,

That's a hard question to answer, as each resort has it's own theme. Yes we really like VWL. It's quiet, I like the fact that it is on the large lake, use those mini boats allot. Close to MK and Camp Wilderness.

But Saratoga is nice also. It is allot more open, not as secluded as VWL but I guess it depends on the type of vacation you plan. On our last vacation in August/Sept, we stayed at both. We just wanted to relax, go to the parks every once in awhile, see the fireworks, eat in some of the restaurants, enjoy the other available items of Disney (we do not play golf) so that didn't interest us. We lounged around the pool, met a bunch of great people from the NE, introduced them to the DIS boards. When we transferred over to SSR for the final few days of our vacation we had planned to spend time at DTD, Disney Quest etc. Some of that didn't happen, a thing called a Hurricane got in the way, but we still enjoyed ourselves enough to make me add on there.

So I guess it just depends on the person/family and what you want out of your vacation. With DVC we go enough times that the urge to rush around the parks like a mad-man as so many people do doesn't exist. We pick and choose what we want to do on each vacation and go with the flow.

Hope that answers your question.

That's just how we feel.

Pat,

I forgot to answer your last question, The building was on the other side, Not near DTD walk way entrance and the road. Our rooms overlooked a canal from the Springs section and could see the DVC offices from our balcony. We were on the third floor, near the back corner of the building.

We own at BWV and OKW, but we took a last-minute vacation last August at SSR, and we loved it. DH would love to add on there, but we already have 700 pts and are nearing retirement. Our trip was for 3 nights, we stayed in the first building closest to the canal, and we spent all our time at the pool, or looking at the House of Blues from our room. It was wonderful! We ate at the Artist's Palette alot, and we liked it. The menu is quite limited, but we liked eating soup and sandwiches for dinner. The soup was to-die-for! They also had a chicken entree one evening that was great--just plain home cooking, nothing fancy. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much that I would like to schedule several 3 day weekends besides our normal vacations.
