What Broadway play?

I want to get tickets to a Broadway or off Broadway play for my 18 year old son and his girlfriend. My husband will be at the office this afternoon and said he'd go to the box office to get them. Any suggestions on what kids that age would enjoy? My son already saw Spamalot so that's out.

What about Spelling Bee, Rent or Hairspray?

Phantom of the Opera! Classics never go out of style!

Edit: Really though, you almost cannot go wrong with any one you pick as they all have excellent actors and plots. :thumbsup2

Definately Wicked, if you can get tickets.

I saw Grey Gardens the last time I was in NY. It was great, but I don't think I could recommend it to everyone. Its sort of bizarre and tragic. :(

my dd 17 LOVED wicked.....and she really wants to see the production of Les Miz that is on Broadway for a limited run........

I loved Wicked  but I would also recommend Rent. It's a very romantic musical (although sad at times) and the music is rock-oriented. Both my teen girls loved it!
:thumbsup2

I vote fotr Avenue Q, so funny....Wicked was very good as well

I know you said your son already saw Spamalot, but my DD16 loves that show; she could see it numerous times! We saw it in August, and we're seeing it again next week.

If your son's girlfriend hasn't seen it, maybe he'd like to take her, and enjoy it a second time. :)

I would suggest Rent, Wicked or Avenue Q...depending on their personalities. If they are more the big, classic musical type then go with Wicked. If they are socially conscious and open to different issues/ideologies then either Rent or Avenue Q would be good. Rent is more rock-opera while Avenue Q is a funny send up of Sesame Street that uses both puppets and humans to tell the story. Avenue Q is definitely more adult than Sesame Street and not a little kid or family show so it could be just right for two late-teens. My DD14 loves the music, although her same-aged friends don't really get it yet. In a couple of years I think they'll love it too. She and I are going to see it this Saturday and neither of us can wait!

I think if they liked Spamalot then Avenue Q might be the best bet.

Avenue Q is hysterical. I would think that or Rent would be good. Actually, I can't think of any that wouldn't be good, but then, I love musical theatre.

Thanks for the suggestions! I want to get tickets for a Sun. in Jan. or mid Feb., so I think that will put Wicked out of the running. I didn't even think of Avenue Q, I'll have to add that to the list.

Has anyone seen the off-Broadway show called "Shout! The Mod Musical"? It looked interesting and seems to have great music in it.

All of the above are great, but given his age, I suggest...

Evil Dead, The Musical! It was absolutely hilarious! Lots of fun! If you decide this, tell you husband to try to get them tickets in the splatter zone where we sat. No worries, you get a poncho for the second act to protect from blood spray.
