what brand purse does you teen carry?

We all (me, DD20 and DD15) have Hobo wallets and sometimes that is all I carry. Both DDs also have Hobo bags - they are big, shapeless leather bags in fun colors. I like them but usually carry a Vera Bradley bag if I take a larger purse.

Kind of OT but it shocks me when I seen a very young girl carrying an expensive purse. I am 34 and just got my first Vera Bradley (love it!) and a Coach (its OK). I could never imagine walking up to my mother and telling her that I want a purse that costs $$$. This would be her reaction: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We just never had that kind of money. If I had a daughter I would be afraid that someone would steal it at school or she would lose it.

There is a Coach outlet nearby.. so I didn't have a problem getting my daughter the one thing she wanted for her birthday. The wristlet was marked down 40% off from an $39 price. (special sale that day!). In essence, she got a coach wristlet for about $24.

She still uses an Aeropostale drawstring bag or some other purses too. Around here the girls have been carrying Coach bags since about 2003 or so. For a while it was those ugly Dooney and Bourke bags but that has passed.

In my area, chanel, louis vuitton, botkier and kooba, to name a few. I got my first LV when I was 16 but lately, 12 and 13 year olds are getting them. I know an 18 year old with a chanel collection that could rival the boutique stock.

The middle and high school girls in my town all seem to favor Vera Bradley, Coach, Juicy, LeSportsac and Harajuku.

My middle schooler has a couple of Harajuku, a lesportsac and uses a Vera Bradley tote to carry her books and laptop back and forth to school. She's not crazy about Coach (neither am I).

I just want to say, I hate fakes (they're illegal and as far as I'm concerned, stealing). There are so many great bags out there, if someone can't afford a real Vuitton, Coach, Dolce, etc. - don't look foolish and get a fake (it's glaringly obvious), buy another brand. I've also read the state department and interpol issued statements that say counterfeit bags help fund terrorist activities. :scared1: Seriously - is it worth it?

Amen.

My niece is a teen and I bought her a Coach bag and she returned it! She wanted a Betsey Johnson instead. I was thrilled that she found her own style (but now who do I leave all of my bags to in my will?!?!??!).

She also loves the giant bags at Target, of all places. She likes that they are big and very roomy for her iPod and books (she in college now, but still a teen!) and if she scuffs them up, it is no big deal.

Although I did catch her eyeing a Marc Jacobs number at Macy's.

Personally, I've been eyeing the Brighton purses! They are fairly simple, I like the shape, and they don't have all those darned logos all over them. I also really like the L.A.M.B. line of purses (the more sedate styles). VERY nice leather on them, great zippers, great linings.

I think Coach makes a very sturdy, well-constructed purse and they last TONS longer than any of the cheapies I buy; however, as a 45 year old, I don't want to carry a purse design that is all the rage with 15 year olds:rotfl: and I don't overly like a LOT of logo if you know what I mean? Some of the Coach bags are just overboard with the logo, while some are okay.

Several of my DD's friends (all just graduated from high school and are starting college) have started buying the Brighton wallets and card holders.

Well, its a good thing God gave my daughter to me!!!! She is twenty now, but she has always had a "thing" for handbags and shoes! Got her first Coach bag in middle school (and we were off!!!), then went on to Kooba, Longchamp, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel. She takes extremely good care of her bags and rotates carrying them. They are "investments" to her. We do not support buying fakes. Quality lasts and classic styles are timeless.

I think you guys are my soul sisters!! I'm the same way!!!

When I was in high school, I carried Dooney and Bourke (those were the most popular at my school) and Coach. Not until my Junior/Senior year though. The beginning of high school I used cheaper purses from Target, Aeropostale, etc. Guess bags were also pretty popular for awhile.

In grade school, DD had a couple of D&B purses. She's a sophomore now and doesn't care about designer brands anymore. Most of her friends have outgrown the deisgner purse phase.
Basically, if she sees a purse and likes the design, that's what we buy.

I can also say that the handbag & shoe (actually, clothing also) "thing" was an indication of her future studies. My daughter is studying business (among other things) in order to own her own boutique in the future. Her love of quality fashion should serve her well.

I totally get where you are coming from. Sometimes, you just don't need all of those little C's all over the place. I do like Coach's Hampton line in leather for this reason. Very well-made, they last forever. I have a white pebbled shoulder bag that I've had for 9 years now and it looks new.

I wish I liked the staff at Brighton stores. They were always very rude and pushy to me. The bags are very pretty.

I saw a TON of Betsey Johnson bags recently at the Nordstrom Rack near us. And Target always has some nice things, also the special edition bags they carry once a year are usually by some up-and-coming designer.

agnes!

I certainly respect your feelings regarding fake bags, but the rest of your statement came off as quite pompous and snobbish. Maybe if the "rich" kids weren't flaunting their wealth so much, the "poor" kids wouldn't feel the need to play keeping up with the Joneses.

It's not pompous and snobbish - it's the truth. Fake bags look ridiculous. And, even worse, anyone using them is guilty of STEALING. And, even if someone using counterfeit bags was okay with being a thief, you'd think maybe knowing they fund terrorist and other criminal activities would make them just buy a more moderately priced Guess or other type bag. But, no, they want something they can't afford and this is the excuse? Because the "rich" kids get to have them?

As for the "rich" kids not using them so the others don't feel bad. Please. That's the most ridiculous statement I've ever seen. So, someone has something someone else doesn't have, they shouldn't use it? :confused3

And, keeping up with the "Joneses" shouldn't involve buying counterfeit merchandise.

Any counterfeit merchandise gets me going - pirated videos, music, clothing, bags, etc. are bad enough. Then these disgusting people started counterfeiting drugs, baby formula, etc.

It all started with harmless t-shirts and bags - pompous and snobbish? If that's what I'm guilty of, more power to me. I'd rather be that then someone who turns the other cheek while they steal and hand money over to terrorists.

If I teach one person how awful counterfeit merchandise is and prevent just one person from not buying it in the future - then, that's a good thing.

I've actually never had one of them even approach me!!

The other good aspect to Brighton is that they've started selling them at the base/post exchanges so I can pick them up and handle them stress-free.

I don't carry a purse anymore, just one of those hardback wallets and whatever else I need in my back pocket.

When I did carry one, though, it was Dooney and Bourke.

Try local boutiques that carry Brighton. I have one by me and the owner of the boutique is lovely. He brought Brighton in when it was a no name and it rose to huge popularity. He offered the best customer service, searching high and low for customer requests, etc.

Unfortunately, Brighton went and opened their own store in the local mall. The boutique owners most loyal customers stayed with him. Always thought it was kind of sleazy how Brighton undercut all the small stores that helped them get as popular as they are. I'd stay out of their corporate stores just for that reason.

While your goal is admirable, your methods are harsh. It's far better to teach with facts and proof than it is to use a hammer. I agreed with you on your first post, but winced when I read it.

I saw a two year old carrying a LV today while at the doctor.

No, I'm not joking.

The bags that I carry that I get the most compliments on are usually clutches that I pay no more than 20.00 for - and I have women dripping with diamonds asking where I got my bag! (And who designed it....) They usually come from Target (or, as I like to say, Tarjet!)

When I was in jr high, Liz Claiborne had a pattern that was all the rage - I had one, but tired of it quickly. And my parents weren't thrilled that I asked for something so expensive....I got it, but since then, I am about style, not designers!

I will, however, inherit some classic LV's and Longchamps that belonged to my grandmother and now my mother - and that is the beauty of those bags: timeless and classic. They truly are an investment - one that I can't make right now, but I sure do appreciate the quality!

my daughter and many of the other girls in her school carry vera bradley purses. when i was a teenager, all i wanted was a D&B all-weather leather purse, but my mom could never have afforded it. over the last few years, i've bought several D&B all-weather leather purses on e-bay, mint condition, with matching wallets, for next to nothing (no more than $30 for the purse, no more than $25 for the wallets). i still love them and carry them all the time.

My 17 year old daughter has a couple of Coach purses and a Gucci (gift from her godmother for her 16th birthday).

She only buys the Coach purses from the outlets and does pay for them with her own money.

However I do love Coach also so it is nice to be able to go into her stash if I get bored with mine.
