What books would be good to buy for info on Disney

What ones are a waste of money

Thanks!

Assuming that you are asking about the various guide books available, I'd actually recommend none. You'll find all the info you need to know for free right here on DIS. You might also look at http://www.allearsnet.com/ which is very good too.

Books I've been happy with.....

The Passporter for WDW......The Unofficial Guide to WDW

DONT waste your money on the e-book by "a former cast member" all of that info is covered in the above mentioned books. Getting at least one will not hurt....I own both and love them. The 2008 versions should be out sometime in August/September. IF you "join" (by registering your email addy with them) the www.passporter.com site, they will give you a code for 30% off!!!

I always get the new/updated Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World and I also read the the boards everyday. I would not buy Birmbaums (sp?) Guide to Disneyworld. It is written by Disney people.

We also used the unofficial guide to disney world. The info is great on this website but I enjoyed reading the book on the way to disney. My husband made a great touring plan for epcot and we covered all major rides by late morning and that left the rest of the afternoon to relax and enjoy the countries.

For our last trip. I used the Birnbaum book. It was nice and I enjoyed the pictures. After reading so much on this forum about the Passporter, I purchased one. OMG!!! It is great. Not so many pictures but way more info. I haven't been able to put it down!!!

I LOVE my Passporter! I'm in search of another book just because I cant get enough!!! I havent purchased Birnbaums, but I did get DD the Birmbaums for Kids by Kids, and she loves it. 2 years later and she still reads it over and over and OVER!

I also love my Passporter! Another option is Tour Guide Mike! There is a link in the Theme Park section of the dis. I believe you get a discount if you click on that link, too! I found his info to be very valuable.

Have a fun trip!

I love the Passporter! Jennifer and Dave put so much detail in to their descriptions of the attractions, resorts and restaurants, and the ratings are very helpful. I bought the deluxe version (think Day Runner/Day Timer for Disney) last year and since I keep up with changes at WDW here, allears, and mousesavers I didn't bother buying the 2007 refill.

I did buy new PassPockets for this year's trip and almost everything I need stuffed in my PassPorter...debit cards, cash, itineraries, schedules, confirmations, e-tickets to the Pirate & Princess Party and menus for each of the restaurants where we'll be dining.

I had to pull out all the pages I didn't need to make my own pages fit, but it's very much my own personalized WDW guidebook now. I have little colored Post-It flags throughout, highlighting restaurant menus, schedules, etc.,all categorized by color.

Another vote for the passporter. It's not only full of great info, but has places for all your receipts. So if you have to buy one, I'd buy the Passporter. Though I haven't bought one since 2005.

I'll read anything about Disney, I don't care who wrote it! :)

I can only compare Birmbaum's and the Unofficial guide ..... And the guide is way better, more detailed, great insights

I have Birnbaum's Official Guide...it is great...they also make one for kids, older kids, I got that one for DD12...I also bought the unoffical guide AND Birnbaum's Dining Guide...it is a smaller book, like 1/2 the width of a regular book/guide! I have used all of them for our upcoming trip in October! They have been great!

Hands down for us is the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World". The latest edition ( 2008) will begin deliveries from Amazon on Aug 23rd. It's an excellent guide.

It really depends on what you want the book for? If you want a book to help plan your trip with lots of good advice, UG & Passporter. If you want something to get you and your kids excited about your trip get a Birnbaums. There are lots of bad Disney books.

Passporter!!!
Its a great book...keepsake...and really gets you excited abt the trip with all the info pockets etc!!!
However....I dont need the info anymore...but I got one this year for my DD10 as a keepsake for our trip in March!!

My vote is for the Passporter, and also for "The Complete Walt Disney World" by Julie and Mike Neal. I LOVE this book, it has so many neat tidbits of information, fun hidden facts, info on the backstory behind the rides, and hints for how to get the most out of your trip. Great book!

My recommendation is to check out some WDW guides from your library and figure out which one you like best. I love the Unofficial Guide, and didn't care for Passporter.

I don't carry the book around with me at WDW, I just use the book for research ahead of time, so the UG works best for me (packed with information!). It seems the Passporter works better for those who plan to carry the book with them at WDW (they use the maps, the place to put your receipts, a place to write notes, etc. while at the parks).

Correction: It is a 20% discount that they give you, but that is still good.

Nevermind, not that good. After adding the shipping (unless your willing to wait 3 weeks for media mail), it's cheaper at your local Barnes & Noble. It is a good book, though.
