What book are you currently reading?

Royal Road to Fotheringay by Jean Plaidy

Has anyone read Mary, Called Magdalane by Margaret George? I know its been around awhile. I really enjoyed George's other books but haven't read this one because I am not particulalry interested in 700 pages of rewritten Bible. Would you think it would be interesting to someone who is not religious but enjoys learning about historical figures?

I read this and I am sooo NOT religious. You will enjoy it.

I just finished Little Children: A Novel by Tom Perotta. It was not good, but I still finished it hoping it would improve. Now I'm on to Paradise Screwed, a collection of Carl Hiaasen's best columns. It's my non-fiction book of the month for March. My New Year's resolution was to try to read a non-fiction book a month. I found that's harder to do than I thought because we have a two-year-old and American Idol is on so dang much during the week!!

Marly & Me was my Feb. selection –– it was so good. I've never physically laughed –– or cried –– at a book before. I found myself reading passages outloud to DH.

Just finished up Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" for the second time.

It is one of the few books in this world that literally had me laughing out loud!

I just recently started jonesing for a re-read of Gone With the Wind, so I ordered myself a used copy from the internet and I just dove in a couple of days ago.

I finished Second Glance by Jodi Picoult yesterday. I loved it. Today I started Mercy by Jodi Picoult.

I'm in the middle of Second Glance right now. I love Jodi Picoult's books. The Pact and Plain Truth being my favotires.

Before Second Glance the last book I read was The Da Vinci Code. I finally broke down and had to see what all the hype was about ;)

Otherwise Engaged....it's a cute story so far about best friends that trade places for 6 months....

Love Jodi Piccoult too!

I've just started Christ The Lord Out Of Egypt by Anne Rice

Omg, I can't count how many times I've read this book. I lol each and every time. I love Bill Bryson and this book led me to read some others of his. One of my favorite parts is when he throws away his friend's hostess cakes or whatever they were. lol.

I had a friend in college who walked the whole appalacian (sp?) trail. He started off with a friend who hurt himself after the first week so he did it alone. I really admired him...what an amazing accomplishment.

As for me, I'm currently reading "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

I loved Mary, called Magdalene. I am Catholic, but at the same time could easily have read it as an intersting history based novel. I also loved Mary, Queen of Scotts, by Margaret George.

I just finished Freedomland. It took me along time to finish this book. I found it very slow and boring.

Now I am about to start Obstruction Of Justice by Perri O `Shaughnessy. Hopefully it will be better. :goodvibes

I am reading "Birth of Venus" by Sarah Dunant-good so far!
:thumbsup2

(I bought this book due to people on the Dis saying it was good!)

Thank you Christine and mtemm. I suspected I would enjoy it but I wanted a few other opinions.

I just finished reading Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. It's a Young Adult book that DD12 had bought, and it looked interesting. It's about a girl in a future society where everyone undergoes an operation at 16 to make them "pretty". This is supposed to eliminate jealousy, judging on looks, etc. It reminds me of The Giver.

It was very thought provoking. I'm going out tonight to buy the second book in the trilogy, "Pretties", and possibly the third, "Specials".

I haven't read this one, but I did just read Song of the Magdalene by Donna Jo Napoli. It's a fictionalized version of the childhood and young adulthood of Mary (Miriam) Magdalene, and ends when she meets Jesus (Joshua). It's a Young Adult book (DD12 picked it out) but I really enjoyed it. It is not written from a religious perspective.

I'm about halfway through "Paula," by Isabel Allende.

That is one of the saddest books. I read it years ago before I had kids and I don't know if I could re-read it now that I have children. Heartbreaking, but very good. Really stays with you.

I'm reading something called Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife. It's the continuation of Pride and Prejudice. It's really really trashy but I just can't put it down. Apparently Mr Darcy ain't nothing but a horn dog and resembles a horse in at least one regard :earseek: Sometimes, you just want a little light trash reading
