I think I brought this up casually in a thread somewhere a few years ago, but I don't remember anybody ever taking the hook really, which really surprised me.

With all the crap today over the reservation system and all the conglomeration of crap over the last 3 months, it's time for a temporary diversion. :)

I'll cut to the chase. No prelude at all.

Why don't we have a DVC ship? Why hasn't DCL and DVC put their heads together to sell points on a boat? It makes perfect sense to me. Would it have to be a little different kind of timeshare? Of course it would. That's the whole point!

Other than the obvious cost of ship's registry needing to be at an American port to flag some state's American TS laws, why hasn't this been done? Why couldn't be done? Why wouldn't it be done?

Discuss and you're welcome. :D

😅 not enough people who want to overpay for a cruise?

There have been a lot of discussion here about a DVC Cruise in combination with Castaway Key and now Lighthouse Point that was announced at last years D23
https://lighthousepointbahamas.com/(Guessing this is now another delayed Disney plan)

considering the premium for Jambo CL + DVC never adding additional CL offerings, I don’t think it would ever financially work for Disney.

In a quick google search,I do see there are Cruise ship condos. These are mostly for retirement. One started at $155,000 through millions, with monthly fees of $4800/mo each person based on double occupancy.

I also wonder about longevity. I went on a cruise on the SS Norway, (in early 1990’s when it was the largest cruise ship, I thought it’s history was really cool) it was launched in 1960 as a trans Atlantic liner. It needed reporting and several major renovations through its life. It’s last Cruise was 2003 and it has since been scrapped.

Awww, we loved that ship and her history. We had a really cool cabin for her "Farewell" Trans-Atlantic in Sept 2001. It was supposed to be her final commercial voyage ... but 9/11 occurred mid-trip and things changed. What a beauty!
