We willbe traveling up the state of Florida and since we are leaving on Memorial Day wkend...thought we'd stop off at the beach....which one? :cool1:

Daytona? Cocoa? St. Augustine? anyone????

Help!

It depends which side you are talking about..on the Atlantic side we liked St. Augustine beaches when we went there more then Daytona..on the Gulf side definitely Clearwater Beach

We were thinking St. Augustine! I have a 12 yr old that we thought would enjoy the forts and such....where to stay there???

How much $$ do you want to spend on a hotel in St Augustine? Do you want a quiet beachfront hotel or a bayfront hotel in the historic district? Or a bed-and-breakfast? Or just a basic hotel in town?

I THINK SOMETHING DECENT THAT WANT BREAK THE BANK :rotfl2: LOOKING ONLINE.....I REALLY DONT KNOW THE AREA??? THAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

DH and I usually stay at the Monterrey Inn which is directly across the street from the Matanzas River/Bay in the Historic District. We've stayed here probably 20-30 times. It is a very basic, circa 1950s motel with older, basic furniture, but is clean and very well kept and is walking distance to everything in the historic area (you can take a tram or drive to the Alligator Farm, Beach, and lighthouse).

It's $99/night on weekends and less on weekdays. It's definitely the least expensive bayfront motel--the Hilton, almost next door, is at least twice the price. Most of the rooms have refrigerators and many have views of the Bay (if either are important to you, be sure to request them).

The Days Inn Historic is fairly close to the historic district but probably not what I consider walking distance. However, it's a good, clean, basic hotel in a safe area.

within a 2 hour ride...there are some great beach front condos for rent by owners (nitely or weekly)... calm waters, lots of fun things to do... or relax and do nothing.. sand is soft as silk...

there are condos to rent directly from owners....daily or weekly
