What areas of SSR are close to the bus stop?

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to the boards, and definitely new to DVC. DH and I just took the plunge and bought 300 points at SSR on Aug. 2. :) We've already booked our first stay as DVC members at SSR in a 2 bdrm Oct 31-Nov 6. Now here are my questions...since SSR is so spread out, is there a better section to stay in that will be closer to the bus stop? Or is there more than one stop? DH and I were spoiled by the monorail since we normally stay at a MK resort, so I'm wondering once you're on the bus, how many stops does it make before reaching your destination? Like when we last stayed at CR, the bus would stop at the Poly & GF before going on to MGM or wherever. Just wondering how long we should plan to get to the parks.
Thanks so much for any advice!

p.s. Can anyone tell me where I can get the neat DVC resort tag I see on people's threads?

Welcome to the DIS and the DVC

Each area has it's own Bus stop. Carousel is the fathest away from it's own stop.

The Route normally is
Grandstand
Carousel
Paddocks
Congress Park
Springs (closest to the main pool area but last stop).

We really liked Congress park as we go to DTD alot walked down the steps out the door and right to the bus stop now some building in that section as the others will be a bit further but not that bad at all.

i think the new Grandstand section is the best of Locations right now . It has it's own themed pool ,1st stop and still very close to the main building.

Also SSR does not share bus service with any other resorts. Once a bus hits all 5 stops within the resort, it proceeds directly to the theme park.

Thank you so much! I'm traveling with all adults and we are definitely going to DTD, so that's very helpful to know what areas are closest to it. So, can we request to stay in Grandstand or Congress Park? If so, do I call back MS or wait until we check in?

Call MS and add it they (the planners) start to look at rooms about 10 to 12 days out. If you wait they will already have a room assigned and can switch it but my thoughts would be those sections would be requested.

Also you can put close to the Bus stop as one of your request. We did this for a smoking area on our last trip as the rule changes went into effect.

Bump - Any other information about the buildings and their differences would be great!

Let's see:
1) The Springs area is closest to the main pool and the restaurants.
2) When you are at SSR, depending upon the room that you are in, it may be closer to go to a differnt bus stop. I stayed at the Paddock area, but my building was right next to Congress Park. So the Congress Park bus stop was closer to me than the Paddock one. Needless to say, I used the one at Congress Park.
3) Take some time to walk around the resort a bit. I found that the resort was extremely relaxing. I ended up walking up to the Artist's Palette from my room in the Paddock each morning because I found the grounds relaxing.

We like Congress Park and the Paddock because DH and I like to walk to DTD rather than take the bus, and it only takes about 3 minutes walking from these sections. If you do end up in the Grandstand or Carousel section, there is a great ferry to take to DTD as well - no matter where we stay, we love SSR - welcome to DVC!!

This I would have to disagree with. One building at Carousel is directly across the street from the bus stop, very close. The other building is futher but not as far as the last building in Paddock is from the Paddock bus stop. In fact that building is closer to the Congress Park bus stop.

As to Grandstand being closest to the main areas. Two buildings are and two buildings are not. Also if you are in the last two buildings built they are not as convenient to the bus stop due to the Roundabout they built. You have to circumvent it to get to the bus stop, or chance being run over while taking the shorter route.

Personally after staying in the Grandstand unless you can get the buildings closest to the pools, I am not that impressed with the location of the other buildings except for thier view. They are not that accessible to other areas.

Our last trip was in Grandstand and that makes a complete experience for us, as we have stayed in all locations at SSR.

None are horrible even carousel but unless you have experienced each area the map can be deceiving.

We were in studio 9301, which is the farthest from the elevator on the 3rd floor in one of the outlying Grandstand buildings. As Sammie noted, these are not close to the leisure pool, studio laundry or bus stop at Grandstand. However, DH timed the walk to Artist Palette and it was only 8-9 minutes!

We will keep requesting Congress Park and hope to stay there sometime ;)

Actually, I had a room in Carousal that was by the bus stop... 30 second walk. But that's really the only thing I have to say that's positive about Carousal.

It's the only section without it's own pool... it shares the pool with Paddock which makes no sense whatsoever... Paddock has 4 buildings and Carousal has 2 and it's the smallest of the quiet pools on the property. :sad1:

Since there are 5 bus stops in the resort, how close you are to any one of them really depends not on which section you are in, but which building within the section.

If you are intersted in DTD then Congress Park is the way to go! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the great tips -- I just called MS and asked them to note Congress Park as our bldg request for our upcoming trip -- hope we get it! :)
