What are your tips for flying?

In a word....carseats. We strap Abby in and she's out like a light.

I have a friend who is a flight attendant and her dd is the same age as mine (almost 4 yrs old), she says that wrap tiny little gifts and let them open them on the plane over the course of the flight. Ill be trying this for my dd's first flight in April.

I remember reading on these exact boards a few years ago that it is not actually the chewing motion from gum that prevents ear trouble when flying...it's the SWALLOWING that does the trick.I have flown so many times and was there with my pack of gum every time and always wondered why the gum never helped me!?! LOL Now I know.
We have flown three times in the last three years from Dallas to Orlando. Our girls are now 6 and 17. I just make sure I have juice/water before takeoff. I would have the little one take several tiny sips until we were at cruising altitude. Worked like a charm. Now this may be a problem with the tighter security rules, but I plan on asking for a bottle of water once we're seated on the plane.
On another topic, how do I get those cute countdown thingys in my signature?
Thanks everyone!

With my 4 boys they each get their own backpack but only
half full and the small stuff in ziplocs. Each usually has:
two books (short reads or coloring)
extra socks
extra underwear
extra t shirt
extra shorts
Gameboy and two games
A few wipes
Chapstick
A couple snacks
Headphones

Why the clothes? Well for one thing my kids are finalists
in the Worlds Sloppiest Eating with Shirt as Napkin contest.
But we have also had our luggage go off in a different direction
twice (so far).

As others stated, slip on shoes and clothes in layers.
But most important is Benadryl, my boys have ear problems
and it helps to keep the eustachian tube clear to cut
down on the pressure problems (sudafed for me).

Oh yeah, Jetblue whenever possible, and we avoid
the bigger airports (oakland instead of San Francisco,
Long Beach instead of LAX or Orange County).
