What are your Pet Peeves?

One word... heelys.. i swear if i see one more kid rolling around on those, i'll throw a stick in front of him like in Big Daddy.. LOL, just kidding, but seriously, not just in the parks, but everywhere people are getting run over by little kids on roller shoes, and it's really riddiculous.

Speaking of Heely's.... Thursday night we were in Innovations waiting to do the Robot Race and some kid comes flying by and falls flat on his butt. It had to hurt because he was going fast. The CM let out a chuckle and said, over her microphone very loudly "Folks that's why Heely's and Rollar Skates are not allowed in any of the parks here at Walt Disney World" :rotfl: Those people got thier kid up and ran out the building they were so embarrassed.

I have two main WDW pet-peeves:

1. I don't know if this exactly qualifies, but once or twice we've come across families who aren't really paying attention to their children, and end up ruining an experience for their family, and the families around them. Once, while watching the fireworks, a child kept telling his mother he felt sick, but she just said ''shh honey, let's watch the fireworks'', and he ended up throwing up on the ground next to me and my younger sister, and I have a weird thing about vomit (emitophobia) and I have a fear of it the same way people fear snakes, spiders and heights, that kind of thing, so that reaally ruined the experience for me, and worst of all- that had been my family's first time watching the fireworks.

#2. Again, this is only a rare occurence, but it happening is really not fun for anyone. Me, my mother, father and sister were eating supper at Chef Mickey's and a couple who like they were in their twenty's or so were sitting at the table next to us, and being incredibly rude. They seemed like they may have had a little too much to drink were imitating the characters, and making fun of my younger sister for wanting Mickey's autograph. They were not there for very long, but my sister got quite upset, so that was another little thing.

But other than that, I love Disney and I dont really have any major pet-peeves, just a few little irk-some things.

I totally agree! If you simply have to have a seat, take it on yourself to see that you do. Anyone, young or old, who gets on a bus, and expects someone to get up for them is arrogant beyond belief. Can't stand on a bus? Rent a car or take a cab. You may think that rude, but I think it rude that you get on a bus and start picking out people you think should stand. Do you have psychic abilities? How do you know who waited for that bus so that they could have a seat? How do you know who is hurting? Do you think kids are immune to being exhausted or sick?
If you read my post, I said that I specifically mentioned healthy older kids first off. And I have never glared at anyone to get up or made snippy comments like many of the stroller/parent nags have done. I was merely bringing up that so many people start whining on these boards that adults don't give up their seat automatically to kids or a parent with kids, carrying a stroller etc. I was presenting the other side of the story. You ask if I'm psychic and how dare I presume who needs a seat? Have you read the posts slamming adult guests who don't give up their bus seat to kids or parents? Talk about presumptive and rude. I gave up my seat before and I'll do it again, but as someone else said, it's when I feel like it not because some annoying pushy parent guilted me into it. And I still think that kids should give up a seat to an old person, someone handicapped, or pregnant. I do not fall into any of these categories, but I know I'm wasting my time even attempting to argue this point, because obviously, people read and see what they want to, and respond in a hysterical, aggressive manner. Just please keep in mind that the world does not revolve around you and your offsping-this is why many kids have no boundaries, or respect. It's because they've been taught that the world turns on their needs and wants. Last post on this subject, because I'm starting to get the idea that debating certain subjects is similar to banging your head against a brick wall. Most of the people here are reasonable and objective, fortunately and thank God for the ignore option! ;)

You would not have had fun on my last trip-we were on a bus to AK, and some 20 something year old guy barfed on the bus. He did ask the driver to pull over but didn't make it in time-the front steps got some of it. And it was september and HOT!:scared1: Needless to say, everyone else on that bus rode the rest of the way with their hands clamped over their faces. I also think about the "vomit factor" when watching anything that has stadium seating-you know, where the seats are staggered in height?

OK, so let me see if I correctly understand the proper "bus manners:"

* Young kids should stand on a bus to let older people sit.
* Adults should give up their seats to let tired younger children sit.
* It is safer to hold your child on your lap.
* It is safer for your child to have their own seat.
* Their should never be any tired children on the bus because at the first sign of being remotely tired, you should RUN from the park with your children to ensure that children do not irritate older equally tired and irritated adults on the bus.
* People who require a seat should wait for the next bus.
* Even if you waited for the next bus, you should give up your seat.
* Some people need a seat more than others, due to unforseen ailments.
* The people with unforseen ailments are ALWAYS the people who are standing, never the people/kids not giving up their seats.
* People with strollers should trot along behind the bus to ensure that they are not taking up too much space.
* Being offered a seat is something that everyone should be able to expect.
* No one should automatically expect to be offered a seat.

Did I cover everything?:goodvibes

I don't remember specifically addressing my post to you. It was meant for the "you" at large. Apparently I hit a nerve.

Yep, that about sums it up!!:rotfl:

Just to let everyone know, I started a poll about this subject, to see which of all these annoying habits takes the cake! Please vote!

What happens when grandma goes flying and breaks her hip because YOU'VE decided that YOUR child is more important than anyone else on the bus? :confused3

Exactly! I thought that post you quoted from was particularly rude and uncalled for.

  • groups that opt to hold a pow-wow in the middle of the walkway

  • Yes! :rotfl: And it's always at least 6 or 7 of them with a couple of stollers and wheelchairs. Sometimes if I'm not in a hurry I just stop and stare at them like WTH? and they eventually break it up. :lmao: So funny. But incredibly annoying if you are trying to get somewhere quickly!!

I don't ride the busses for the reasons everyone is talking about. If I ever do decide to ride one I will have to remember that everyone has more rights than I do. I should never expect to sit down because there will always be someone who thinks they need my seat more than I do. Do I have this right???:rolleyes1 I would have to say that would be my pet peeve.

My biggest pet peeves are in order of annoyance : *People stopping right in front of me - and making me almost run over their kids in my ECV and our stroller * People not putting hats on their kids! * And this is not really a pet peeve, but just something I notice on every trip - TOO much butt! I see way too much of it everytime I am at WDW- you know the short shorts and skirts, and to top it all off - high heels, who would let their kids/teens wear that? Esp. to WDW in the sun, on the hot sticky ride seats, walking for 5-15 miles a day !

How about WDW bans standing on buses? Then you can complain that it takes to long to board a bus or that they should increase the number of buses because they don't allow standing anymore.;)

People rushing to the bus at the bus stops is my major pet peeve! They see the bus coming, run to the curb and then block the door for those people trying to get off. Several times on our last trip the bus drivers had to get pretty firm about telling people to stand back and let people off...and we were there the beginning of February, so it wasn't like you weren't going to get a seat. I actually saw one father YELL at his GROWN daughter who would not move back from the bus door as we were trying to get off! I thought, "You go, Daddy! Tell her!!" :thumbsup2

My other big problem is people not holding doors for others. I was always taught you hold the door for the person right behind you, not let it slam in their face. Is this only done in Iowa?! Seems very few people will take a second to help someone anymore. I was balancing a tray full of food and bottles from Mara on the way back to our room; a group of 6 adults came through the doors, and while they all looked right at me, not one paused to let me through or held the door. They just let it slam in my face and I had to juggle to open it myself.

Don't even get me started on ADULTS pushing during parade time!

OMG! I am dying :lmao:

I think parents should certainly have their children offer up a seat to the elderly or another parent holding a child....OK or a pregnant woman (I think I covered everyone)

It is just common sense, to teach kids .....manners.

Some of you mention how you don't like the kids who act up like in the parks, or wear healys and the parents say nothing or ignore the bahavior that can cause injury to said child-- then what is the difference if the kids have to STAND on the bus-- oh- it is at THAT time that everyone worries that their chidren may be injured:lmao:

Uh-huh. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Why is the child's safety all of a sudden a concern.

I will wait until I can sit down on the bus and once I do, neither I nor my children are giving up our seats unless, at my discretion, I see someone who I feel is deserving. I don't care if you give me the evil eye or throw all the mojo you got at me.

There, I feel better having gotten that off my chest....

Oh wait, I thought this was the "confess your Disney sins" thread

That is exactly how I feel about the whole standing on the bus situation.

Call me rude or whatever, but that's just the way it is. I would never expect anyone to give up their seat for me and if I choose to wait for the next bus, I have the right to my seat. Everyone has the right to wait for the next bus. It's as simple as that. Of course, there are plenty of times where I have offered my seat to someone and I will always offer my seat when I see someone who is more needy and will appreciate it.
