What are your living arrangments?

I rent an apartment now and have been renting (not always here) for 10 years. A chunk of that time was spent quasi-employed while going to school, so it was all but impossible to save anything toward a house, but I just found out today that I'm being promoted :cool1:, so the house-savings-fund will kick into high gear very shortly.

We rented for 1 year and then bought a house with my db and dsil. We got married within 1 month of each other and 1 year later moved in together. It was fun but 8 years later and 7 kids we sold the house and had enough of a down payment to buy our own houses. We have lived in our house for 27 years now and we own it outright.

Currently in college and live in a sorority house. Plan on moving into an apartments with some roommates for a few years post graduation. I won't have a stable job for a few years so I don't want to commit to a house. Plus, I LOVE having roommates!

My parents own a house and have an open room for me but my job offer is about 1000 miles away from them. Not sure I could live with them after 4 years away anyways :)

We have lived in the same house for over 26 years. We have added on a couple of times so we still have payments for about 3 more years.

We bought our first house about 2 years after we got married, and even though we've relocated several times, we always sold and bought again... until now.

But like several other previous posters, it just doesn't make sense to buy in our area right now.
Nothing like relocating to RE bubble central at the height of the frenzy.
The stories I could tell...

I'm finally starting to see a few low end properties that might be approaching some version of rental parity, but it seems the kinds of houses I'm interested in are still priced in the stratosphere. When every rent vs buy comparison I run comes back "it's never better to buy" even using a 30 year time horizon, something is still very wrong. So we're contented renters for now.

OP,
Keep saving :thumbsup2

We own our house or I should say that the mortgage company owns us. In our area house prices have held steady....so far.

I own a house and a hobby ranch, on about 80 acrse, we rented for about a year and a half. Our first house only had an acre so we live there for 3 years until the right property came on the market. Near to town and work. We live 8mins out of town.

When we finished college, we each lived at home with our parents for one year until we got married. Then for eight years we lived in apartments (4 different ones in 4 different towns. In 1998 we bought our house and have lived here ever since.
