What are your Holiday and winter break plans?

Nana Claire’s Night before French toast

1 loaf Italian, French, cinnamon, or brioche bread, sliced (I like the last best)

8 large eggs
3 Cups milk Beat together
½ C sugar
1 T vanilla

Grease 9x 13 baking dish. Lay 1” slices flat on the dish. Or, you can cut them in chunks. Pour the liquid over. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover and refrigerate up to 36 hours.

Uncover. Dot each slice with butter. Bake at 350 deg. 45 min – 1 hour

Apple Upside Down French Toast

prepare the night before

1 stick butter
1 Cup brown sugar
1 TBSP water
3 granny smith apples
Cinnamon to taste
1/2 Cup raisins or craisins
1 loaf french bread sliced 1 1/2 inches thick
1 1/2 Cup milk
6 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
Whipped cream

Combine butter, brown sugar and water in saucepan. Heat on medium heat until bubbling, stiiring frequently. Pour into a 9x13 pan and cool for 20 minutes. Peel, core and thinly slice apples. Place apples in rows, overlapping them slightly on top of cooled sauce in 9x13 pan. Sprinkle apples with cinnamon and raisins. Place bread slices on top of the apples. Mix together milk, eggs and vanilla. Pour over the bread. Cover and refigerate over night. Bake at 350 for 1 hour (covered with foil for the first 45 minutes) until golden brown and crispy on top. Serve upside down, spooning sauce over the french toast. Garnish with whipped cream if desired.

That's why I only make it a couple times a year. :) Linda's sounds yummy too and so much easier than mine, we may have to give it a try tomorrow ;)

Mmmm-that french toast sounds yummy!!

Here's what we have planned:
Kids last day of school is Friday. Sunday afternoon I'm hosting my annual cookie exchange. Everyone brings cookies & candies to exchange, and we make cutout sugar cookies that we decorate at the party. Also I think DH bought tickets to see the Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker on Sunday night.:woohoo: Monday we're going to one of the outlet malls with my BFF's to finish up last-minute shopping. Then we'll head to Grammy's house for a few days to exchange gifts with our cousins that live in South GA. Christmas Eve: my sister comes home from NY, and I have a big dinner at my house after our church service. Christmas morning everyone comes to our house-we open presents then have a big Christmas breakfast. Around 2 or so, we'll head to my MIL's house for a few hours for Christmas dinner. The week between Christmas & New Year's is spent watching football, playing with new toys, etc. New Year's Eve we have a big party at my BF's house.

My goal this year is to finish my shopping this week before the kids get out of school-I hate stressing out last minute!! We've all been sick for 2 weeks, but finally everyone is back at school so I'll be hitting the mall every day this week until I get it done. Kids are done-just need to figure out what to get the adults on my list...

cookies, cookies and more cookies. Were so behind on baking this year. I just moved in so im trying to use up my stash of stuff from my kitchen. Probally end up having a game night or two. Probally some crafty stuff. Im feeling really stressed by everything we have to do before Christmas. Were the sole Cookie bakers in the family and I want to make somthing they havent tried yet (Anginetti cookies) since they dont like the Croatian Cristmas Cookies I made last year!
