What Are You Reading Right Now?

I just finished The Lightning Thief and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. It wasn't the greatest movie ever but I will continue the series. Eventually.

I finally started Under The Dome. Other than On Writing, I've never read a Stephen King novel before. I've seen movies but that's it. Oh my. Quite a body count right off the start! I didn't expect that. It's moved status from bedtime book to daytime book. :scared:

i attempted "under the dome", got about 10 pages in, then donated it to our library's book sale....

so now, i'm reading "bedazzled" by george beahm (about stephanie meyer of twilight)

as well as (still reading) "recollections: a baby boomer's memories of the fabulous fifties" by jim chambers (it's only 133 pages, but i'm enjoying the nostalgia so much, i'm taking my time reading it!)

McCarthy- Had to read Blood Meridian for school. Sooo not my cup of tea. Interesting but way to violent and disturbing for me. I don't mind horror but it was disturbing.

Well, in general, a time-travel, historical, high adventure, love story. I will warn you though, there are some rather dark, violent parts to it. For me, it really made me quite emotional, not like a blithering fool or anything (except the end of Dragonfly), but I did find myself thinking about the book after I had put it down to do other things. The author writes so vividly, I could really imagine being there and could not wait to get back to the book. I actually was annoyed when I had to take care of my real life responsibilities and stop reading! LOL!! It takes place in mid 1700 Scotland, for the most part.

I don't really feel qualified or enough of a literary mind to suggest books to people, but I feel this series is that good, that I can say READ IT, you will enjoy it.

Thank you for that. I think I am going to give this series a try. ;)

I am now reading the 3rd book in the series...VOYAGER. I just started it today and I'm quite excited about reading it. Only got through about 12 pages while DS was up and realized, I just can't read her series with the TV on. So I'll enjoy it tonight when I get home from work. :cool1:

I'm reading the Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and then reading Under the Dome.. is that a quick read? At 1000 pages thats pretty intimidating..

I've been reading Under the Dome for the last couple of weeks, I can usually get through a book fairly quickly but this 1 I'm having a little trouble with. I've had it a little less than 3 weeks I think and I'm only 750 pages in, I found myself going back and re-reading parts quite a bit. It's a really good book though, enjoy!

I love it when this happens unexpectedly. I read so much and about one out of every 10 books actually is a winner for me. This one is!

It is called Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. I picked it up at Costco without knowing a thing about it. I've not seen a review, nor is it on the best seller list it just sounded kind of good and I loved it.

I won't do it justice in my summary, but basically, it is a story of a family. The two sisters are grown. One stayed home and one travels the world. They were raised by a very loving father and a very cold, unloving mother who has never shown them an ounce of affection. The mother is Russian and the only kindness/attention she ever gives them is when she tells them Russian fairy tales at night. An incident occurs, and the mother even stops that.

The story starts as the father is dying. The girls rush to his bedside and he begs them to make their mother continue the fairy tales--to the end.

The book centers on them trying to cajole the mother into doing this, trying to break her icy exterior, to get to know her. As the story unfolds, there is an incredible (and historical) history the mother shares through this one fairy tale that is absolutely heartbreaking and explains everything.

It's VERY good, I promise!

With all of the snow we are expecting I just got back from buying two books. Stuart Woods Kisser and Worst Case by James Patterson.

I finished The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan last night. I am really enjoying this series! If you like fantasy, then you will really like this. He is such a good story teller.

I started Living Dead In Dallas by Charlaine Harris this morning.

I am currently reading "Are you there Vodka? It's me Chelsea". -Chelsea Handler.
Its a pretty interesting book.

just finished it this afternoon; tookl me 1 week and 2 days. but I was "pwerr"reading , the reason being I waited almost 2 months to get it from the library, and there is no renewals, so I had only 2 weeks to read it. that made me nervous, and I won't do it again. reading felt more like a job, than realaxing and enjoyable!
I thought it was easy to read, though, lots of smaller chapters, lots of conversation. lots of characters, though. I kept going back to the front pages to check the "cast" of characters, and the town map.
I liked the book alot, but next time I'll wait for it a book to come out in paperback and buy it. that huge hardcover book killed my wrists! I like to curl up with a book, not prop my arms up with pillows!!!:lmao: good thing I didn't fall asleep while reading it, it would have knocked ne out!!:rotfl:

That does sound very good, Christine! I'm going to order it. Thanks for recommending it. :)
ETA- I didn't realize, Winter Garden, was written by the same author as, Firefly Lane. I loved Firefly Lane! I'm excited about this book. Already ordered.

In the mean time, I'm reading, Ceremony in Death, by J.D. Robb.

Currently reading "Cross Bones" by Kathy Reichs.

I put "Under the Dome" on my Kindle. Saving it for a plance trip.

The author has written quite a few books, I realized. I think I've only read one of them though (Angel Falls) and I can't even remember anything about it but the title. At least I can investigate her other books now.

A co-worker lent me Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. I haven't gotten into it yet. Any reviews?

Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews. Very good read. I've been reading a lot of books set in the south... it keeps me holding on hope that I will get down there soon enough-I despise Northern VA and can't wait to move far far away.
