the new jackie collins novel. Cannot name it because it has a bad word in the title.:rolleyes1:flower3:

A co-worker lent me Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. I haven't gotten into it yet. Any reviews?

I liked it. It wasn't my favorite book, but I like it well enough. They say her other book "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" was better, but I thought they were equally good.

I enjoyed Snow Flower & The Secret Fan. I started reading Peony in Love, which is also by Lisa See, but it just dragged for me so I put it down. :guilty:

I just finished Snow Flower & The Secret fan last night. I thought it was very good.
I also read Peony in Love and thought it was very good as well...kind of slow moving in some parts...but I enjoyed it the story.
My favorite book by Lisa See was Shanghai Girls. I loved it! :lovestruc

Can anyone reassure me that "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" will get better? I'm 100 pages in, and not liking it at all! Very slow, and not interesting at all!
I have to slog through it, though, for book club.

It is called Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. I picked it up at Costco without knowing a thing about it. I've not seen a review, nor is it on the best seller list it just sounded kind of good and I loved it.

I read Firefly Lane by Kristen Hannah and Loved it! Winter Garden is on my list to read. I'm so glad you liked it, now I'm really excited to start it!

I have Winter Garden on reserve at the library. I'm glad to hear it gets positive reviews.

One of my favorite books that I have read is Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, so I'm a little leary about reading Shanghai Girls.

I just finished Jodi Picoult's Harvesting the Heart and didn't care for it as much as some of her others.

I've been reading Stephen King's Bag of Bones but had to put it down because a 14 day book I had on reserve came in....
It's Vince Flynn's Pursuit of Honor, I love his series of books. DH wants to read it as well, so we only have the 14 days between the two of us.

Can't wait to get back to Bag of Bones.

I started "That Old Cape Magic", but I couldn't get into it, so I quit. Right now I"m reading "Murder had a little Lamb" by Cynthia Baxter. Much more my style.

I am getting ready to start Deeper than the Dead by Tami Hoag. I have heard really good reviews about it.

Still reading The Shack. Not what I expected in the least. Can't say I'm loving it, but I'll continue & finish it. It has an interesting perspective.

I don't like to give up on a book, but I'm actually sorry that I wasted my time finishing that one! I kept waiting for it to get good and it never did.

I just finished Karen White's "The House on Tradd Street" which I really enjoyed. It had all of the elements I love - the genteel setting of Charleston, an uptight real estate broker, old houses, an historical, mystery to be solved, a sense of humor, a bit of romance, an adorable dog named General Lee and, of course - ghosts. It's a great vacation or beach read.

I'm reading My Guy Barbaro: A Jockey's Journey Through Love, Triumph, and Heartbreak with America's Favorite Horse by Edgar Prado. It's about the champion racehorse Barbaro, who broke down in the Preakness race in 2006 after winning the Kentucky Derby two weeks prior. It's the amazing story of Barbaro's life, his struggle for survival, and his wonderful jockey Edgar Prado. I am really enjoying the book, even knowing that the ending will be heartbreaking.

Lucky by Alice Sebold
I really loved The Lovely Bones but Lucky is Alice's own memoir and it gets really intense at times but I'll probably finish it anyway.

Lima Nights by Marie Arana but I'm becoming bored with it. I guess it's good I'm on the last chapter!

I'm reading, "the story of Hannah Breece: A schoolteacher in Old AK". It's actually not a bad book, considering Hannah didn't write the book right away (after her experiences). Her great-niece had it published after her death. Very interesting story about the local native people in different villages she taught at and her directives from the Gov't. The niece who had it published wrote a little disclaimer in the beginning that sounded like, "please excuse the racial undertones. I have decided not to take them out since it's part of the story, but remember the time period". She didn't think Hannah was racist, and I didn't get that impression either. I don't think I'd recommend the book, but if it's lying around I'd read it.

Finished Living Dead In Dallas last night by Charlaine Harris. I liked it well enough so I'll continue with the series.

Next on my list is Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs. I've enjoyed all the books I've read by her so far. I'm sure that this one will be no exception.

Thanks! I also don't like to give up on a book, but you reinforced that I made the right decision.

I just finished reading The Help. Overall I liked the book, but I wish the ending went in a different direction.
