my son read the shack. hubby is reading it now/ an old friend from grammar school says I should read it/

I'm still reading, Rapture in Death. Good, but slow going because of life. :) No complaints.

I'm so excited! I didn't know, Dear John, is a movie now! I thought the book was really good. Tearjerker, but good. I'd like to see the movie.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians book 3: The Titan's Curse

I can't wait for The Lightning Thief movie to come out on President's Day!:goodvibes

You aren't alone!! Only a week to go now (well, less than), so exciting.

Reminds me I need to get the book back from my friend so I can re-read it.

Right now I'm currently reading The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold.

Not sure if I added this. Just finished The Shack last week. Loved it, I thought it would be more about the abduction/murder, but still loved it.
I recently started this book. I am at the part that the abduction has just taken place & am very bothered by it. It is difficult to read. :guilty:

I read the first one and enjoyed it, but not enough to read the others. I liked the idea, especially for a movie, but I was not motivated enough to read the others. DH read them all and loved them, and DS listened to the first one on CD. We are all excited for the movie, though!:thumbsup2

I read The Shack last year...I had a really hard time getting into it. I really wanted to like it, but I just didn't.:confused3 I'm a Christian and all, but I guess I just couldn't read this from an open-minded point of view. I don't know why...I don't consider myself to be close-minded. I don't know, but it just didn't do it for me.

I just started reading "A Reliable Wife" by Robert Goolrick. I actually got it to take on vacation, but made the mistake of starting to read if when I got it home, and now I am having a hard time putting it down.

I didn't like it either, completely agree.

I tried to read it also and just couldn't get into it. It reminded me too much of a self help book.

I tried to read it also. I finally gave up when I was forcing myself to continue. I had read so many people loving it and I really liked their opinions on other books but this one just didn't keep me going.

Did anyone read:

Home A Memoir Of My Early Years
by Julie Andrews

A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love, and Faith in Stages
by Kristin Chenoweth

Twilight Saga Official Guide
by Stephenie Meyer

I am looking at maybe buying 2 out of the three, and would like to know which are worth it.

I just finished Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian. Is is set in Germany during the last year of WWII. It is a very tough read at times, as I suppose is the case with all books about the Holocaust. But it had a unique storyline and interesting characters, and I highly recommend it.

A question for fans of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series: I have read the entire series (several times). Do you have any recommendations for me of similar types of books? (I am thinking historical adventure/romance.) I just finished Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness series, which I also liked (but not as much as Outlander). Thanks in advance!

I read the Julie Andrews book, it was great. I didn't know Kristin Chenoweth wrote a book, I'll have to get that one.

I see you seem to like show business autobiographies, so here are a few of my favorites...

Wake Me When It's Funny by Garry Marshall - I swear, this man has worked with practically every one in show business, especially during TV's 'Golden Age'

One More Time by Carol Burnett

Just finished these two this week:

The Help by Katherine Sockett(sp?) - just read this and could NOT put it down, stayed up until 4am this morning to finish it

McCarthy's Bar by Pete MacCarthy(sp?) - very interesting, funny, atmospheric

agnes!

I am currently reading
under the dome
I caught a brief glimpse of :something" and choose not to go further. I am 474 pages into it. therefore.. be back later...

I truly thought it would be more focused on the abduction/crime, and as morbid as this sounds - I like those kinds of books. I watch Forensic Files, Snapped, any kind of crime show. In high school I was reading auto biographies of serial killers (I think I scared my mom a bit!). I knew it had a Christian theme....but I wasn't prepared for the book to really focus on his relationshop with God. For me, not being religious at all really, I enjoyed the perspective of how God was to him. When I did finish it, I was kind of "eh" though.

I just finished Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri. I loved it even though I was a bit surprised that it was a series of short stories like Interpreter of Maladies. What I really liked was how some of the short stories are connected.

I am now reading All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. I loved The Road so thought I would give this one a try. It's written in the same way. I'm not loving it yet but I will keep going.

I want to try Outlander, but our local library does not carry it! How can that be?

I just finished The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, and my next book will be either Miracles or Mere Christianity, both also by C.S. Lewis.

I Loved The Road and couldn't put it down! I'll be anxious to hear what you think of All the Pretty Horses.

I finished Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. Good, but not as good as her The Glass Castle.
Today I started Main Street by Sinclair Lewis. I had some trouble getting into it, but now I am and I'm about 1/3 thru it.
