What Are You Reading Right Now?

Finished "A Reliable Wife" a few days ago and am now reading "Unaccustomed Earth." I love Jumpa Lahiri.

I'm in the middle of reading "Peter and the Shadow Thieves" by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. It's pretty good so far.

Under the Dome by Stephen King, about 1000 pages, no description on the book jacket, wonder what it's about or whether I'll like it. Any input?

I'm about 85% done with Under the Dome. In a very brief nutshell, it's about the dynamics of a small town after they are cut off from the rest of society. They are "cut off" by an invisible dome (I don't *think* that's giving too much away!).

Things then happen as they do in the mind of Stephen King. I'm a huge King fan (I actually got to meet him once!!! :cool1: ) and I'm not enjoying this book as much as I expected to. It's a worthwhile read, if you like the genre. King always does an excellent job of developing his characters and making them feel very real.

Next up for me is "The Elegance of the Hedgehog." This is March's book for book club. I've heard good things about it, so I'm excited to start it. After reading 2 heavy books, I need something light and fun to read. .

It's good, but light and fun it ain't!

And along those lines, just finished Pat Conroy's South of Broad. The man is a brilliant writer, but I always end up turning the last page at 2 am, tears streaming down my face. This one was no exception. Lovely, lyrical, moving, and a few deeply disturbing scenes.

I am now reading "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown and "Percy Jackson: The Battle of the Labyrinth" by Rick Riordan. I am not very far into either book but book are good so far. I have read both of Dan Browns other Robert Langdon books and I loved them and this one is shaping up to be good as well.

Just finished this book and I have to say that after 1000 pages of getting caught up in the characters lives "Under the Dome" I was disappointed by the ending. It almost seemed like he tired of writing and just threw in an ending to wrap it all up.

Has anyone read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein? It was recommended by a few co-workers. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the 20-30 min drive to the book store.

I really enjoyed that book!

I just started The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

Hi Sandy!!! :wave2:

Great to "see" you again!!

As for me, I'm reading The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Diaz. I started it over Christmas, and I'm hoping to get back to it when I get more time!

WHOO HOO!!! I FINALLY finished OUTLANDER! And I started DRAGONFLY IN AMBER by Diana Gabaldon. This one is a THICK book, I'm getting ready to go online to renew as it's due on Tuesday. No way I can read 800+ pages in 2 days, I don't care how much I read!

I just started Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier. However, after looking more into these Outlander books, I know these will be next on my Kindle.

Right now I have two books in rotation. At home I am reading the new J.D. Robb book Kindred In Death. At work I am working on Sidney Sheldon's Are You Afraid of the Dark.

One of these days I will have to go through this thread to get ideas for some more reading.

I just started "Marked" by PC Cast and Kristin Cast (first book in the House of Night series). So far it is pretty good. Definitely a YA book but I'm enjoying the storyline.

I'm adding "The Book Thief" to my list (so many good reviews here can't be wrong, right? ;)).

I'm still reading "Under the Dome" too, I'm on page 748 so just over 300 pages yet to go, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm sad to hear someone didn't like the ending though. :(

It's kind of funny, but I've read all of Stephen King's work (with the exception of the Dark Tower series that I just couldn't get in to) and it's actually rare that I remember the ending of the story. I remember some characters so vividly ("M-O-O-N spells Moon!") and can remember just about every detail - until the end.

I'm almost done with Under the Dome and I can tell that I may remember Dale Barbara and Julia Shumway for a long time, but I won't be able to recall how it all ends.

I finished The Outlander last week. Loved it, but haven't continued to the next one yet. I started Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton.
