Just finished "I Know This Much is True." I'm not really sure how I feel about the book. It's really kind of depressing, but not, if that makes any sense.

Next up, The Book of Ruth, by Jane Hamilton
I know exactly what you mean. That's how I've felt about all his books so far.

I just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain. I know this has gotten a lot of good reviews and has been on the bestseller list. I'm also a sucker for dog stories but I guess I was tad bit disappointed in the book. I didn't care the small chapters entirely devoted to racing; however, I thought it was a wonderful story about the love between the dog and the main character of the book. Very touching.

I think that's why I'm not going to read any more of his books for a while. Need time to process the last one.

Just found out that our book club choice, "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" is in for me at the library. I'm thinking I might read that one before "The Book of Ruth." Any comments? Anyone read it?

I just started reading The Lovely Bones. I wanted to read the book before I saw the movie. From what I heard, its a great read!

It's hard to get through at times but it was good.

The movie is very different but yet the floaty sort of feeling from the book is there. If you go in knowing the movie only keeps to the very barest parts of the story and the rest is changed, then it's not a bad movie. If you go in expecting the book in the movie, you will hate it.

I haven't read the book or gone to see the movie as of yet but my two oldest DDs went to the movie this past week.

DD16 who read the book first was VERY disappointed with the movie and rattled off about 20 things that ticked her off, LOL.

DD15 who had not read the book absolutely raved about the movie, just loved it.

I told DD16, it is always very difficult for me to see the movie version of a book as well ~ there is just no possible way to squeeze all of the info from a book into a couple hour experience.

I just started reading The Secret by Beverly Lewis- love her books, light and fluffy reading for me. I'm also reading Under the Dome by Stephen King, just started it this morning, I have high expectations for this book but don't have an opinion yet. I just finished The Notebook- awesome as always, haven't read it in a while so after watching the movie again last weekend figured I would pick it up. I also just finished Angels and Demons- great book can't wait to watch the movie!

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella.

I am debating starting Dear John before the movie comes out or waiting to read it after I see the movie.

Dear John is on my list at the library, I want to read it before seeing the movie. Channing Tatum is 1 of my favorite actors, so I hope the book comes in soon so I can get through it before seeing the movie when it comes out.

I am reading (on my Kindle) “The Lost City of Z”, about the famous (or, used to be) explorer Percy Fawcett (he served as the role model for Professor Challenger in The Lost World by Conan Doyle).

Percy Fawcett was the last of the great Victoria age explorers. Many times he would head off into the Amazon basin to explore some uncharted area, coming out again months later. Several times he was given up for lost only to reappear, weak and emaciated, but game to go back in again.

Fawcett developed a mania that within the huge expanse of the Amazon basin (the size of the United States) was a lost city that he called “Z” (which Doyle called “The Lost World”). The prevailing theory was that the Amazon basin could not support a large civilization (the Incas, Mayans, etc., were not in the Amazon basin) due to the poor soil and lack of food (that surprised me about the soil; however, I guess that soil fit for a jungle is not necessarily good for growing food). Fawcett became convinced that there had been such a civilization at one point, now covered by the jungle, and he aimed to find it.

Fawcett entered the Amazon one last time at age 57 in 1925, accompanied by his son and one other man (Fawcett believed in small groups). They were never heard from again, although people kept expecting him to emerge, victorious, for many years.

Over the decades other groups have entered the Amazon determined to find out what happened to Fawcett, only to not return themselves.

If you read the National Enquirer, etc., you may have recently seen photographs of Brad Pitt with a beard: he is making a movie based on the book. I assume he plays Fawcett.

Thus far an excellent read. The book shifts between a history of Fawcett, and the author’s research and preparation to go into the Amazon basin himself. I have not finished the book, so I have no idea of he actually found Fawcett still wandering around, or if the author himself is now lost in the jungle or perished.

I like the Morningstar fake meat crumbles! They are good. I promise! If you are an onion ring fan, you have to try hers. Good substitute for the real thing. I'll learned you can do a lot with Tof Shirataki noodles, canned pumpkin, fake meat, Splenda, light vanilla soymilk, etc...some of her staples!

I meant to respond to this paintnolish, I was looking through the Hungry Girl book and it reminded me. I bought tofu once, in a blob/block. I kept it awhile, ended up throwing it away. If it is already seasoned and all I have to do is toss it in a recipe, I could try that. :upsidedow Thanks for letting me know.

I'm such a picky eater. I hadn't tried onion rings until a few years ago. They are pretty good! I'd give HG's a try. As long as they are cooked and not crunchy, I'm okay. :)

Off to read, Innocent in Death. Man, it's taking me a long time. I'm on too many tangents. Good book though.

I just finished No Mercy: A Mystery by Lori G Armstrong

It's a good quick mystery, very fast paced and action packed. I believe it's going to continue as a series and I am pretty excited for the next installment (even though this one just came out). I'm going to pick up her other series at the library tomorrow.

Reading OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm only on page 149 out of 627! :faint: Had to renew it online as I knew I won't be done in 4 days.

I'm reading Bloodroot by Amy Greene. I actually don't even know what it is about!

My mom read a fantastic review on it and said she wanted to buy the book. I told her I would go pick it up for her at Borders since I had a 30% discount coupon. So, I bought the book but she told me I could start on it since she is in the middle of another book. So, I just started last night.

If anyone has heard anything about the book, let me know. I have no idea what it's about.

I just finished The Help and have started A Reliable Wife. LOVED The Help.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. Borders was really pushing the book in their store yesterday (didn't see any takers). And at full price, I wasn't buying. But if it's really good, I'll have to order off of Amazon or pick it up at Costco.

I picked this up on Friday and finished it yesterday. I saw the movie first... I liked the movie, but the book was better. :thumbsup2

Interested in The Reliable Wife.... I get so obsessed with books though, I don't want to start another right off. If I like a book, I get totally into it and can't stop reading until it's DONE!

I saw a rave review of this book today in a magazine. I'm adding it to my library queue. Something about something in Tennessee. That's all I remember. Sorry to be of no help whatsoever.

I really need to find some light fluffy romantic reads to zone out to with the stress life is throwing at me. Any suggestions :goodvibes

Danielle Steel is very fluffy. Sometimes her books are mundane, but certainly a fluff read.

I recently read a Jennifer Weiner book & loved it. Funny, fluffy & a good read.
