Just started 5 Greatest Warriors, received from Amazon pre-order today!!!

It is part of a series by Matthew Reilly. This is the 3rd book in that series that started with:

7 Dealdy Wonders
6 Sacred Stones

Now

5 Greatest Warriors

Finally finished Audrey's Door. I would not recommend that book to anyone. Next in line is Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. I need something light after that dark novel I just read. I believe Dead Until Dark is the first of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I hope I'm right!

I just started Dead Witch Walking it's the first in the Hollows Series about Supernatural Beings living out in the open with humans in Cincinnati.

I love The Hollows series, one of my favorite series period.

I just finished Born of Ice which was from Sherrilyn Kenyon's League series. great reads!

Up next for me is Undead and Unwelcome by Maryjanice Davidson..fabulous series of books about Betsy the Vampire Queen

I just finished The Lovely Bones which was a great book. Disturbing but very well written.

Now I am reading the first edition of Eating Right For a Bad Gut. There is a newer edition but this one was on my mom's bookshelf. I have Celiac Disease and IBS and have been sick for the past 5 months so I am hoping this book will give me some insight.

Actually, if you go into the Kindle Books section and click on the Kindle Bestsellers link on the the left you can find several choices for free. These change sometimes too so check back. I have downloaded a ton of free books for mine from there and actually discovered come new "favorite authors" by doing so.

ITA! I've found several books I would never have known about nor some I would have given the chance. The Christmas Bus was one of those :goodvibes

I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse books. So far :thumbsup2

Curious, what was your take on The Road? No Country for Old Men disturbed me a lot, mostly the violence, so I'm hesitant to start The Road.

I read the book soley because a colleague said it was very good. I don't think it is a book I would have picked up on my own at the book store.

As a PP stated, it also took me some time to "get into it". It starts off with the boy and father already on the road. It doesn't go into the details of how they got there at first. I enjoyed the book, but also found it a bit disturbing, especially with some of the violence details. There are times in the book where you want to shout to them "Stay where you are!!".

I think for me, it took me such a while to finish it as there is only dialogue really between 2 people the entire book. It reminded me of the "Wilson scene" in the Castaway movie from Tom Hanks. I haven't seen the movie version of The Road, and I'm not sure how the violence in the book would be portrayed on the screen.

Overall, I did enjoy it, but definately not a "feel good" book!

I had to read some Cormac McCarthey book for school once....totally not my style. Not that I am all about chick lit or flufy stuff. It was just too much for me. I'd horrify my mom by reading passages aloud to her, so I guess it was enhiyable in that way!
I finally got The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane and have started the first few pages. I've been too busy to read more, though. I also got Under the Dome...just lugging that will be a workout!

Start with a classic like 'salem's Lot, the Shining or The Stand.

Carrie, is a good one. But I lean towards The Stand, I think it is the best book I have ever read.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll add those to my ever growing amazon wish list! I'm home for winter break and have time to read! Yay! I read The Book Thief (amazing, I keep thinking about the characters) and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (quick, easy, and enjoyable read). I started A Tree Grows in Brooklyn the other day.

1984 by George Orwell. My bookclub recently read The Giver by Lois Lowery, and it was fab the second time around, so I thought I'd read 1984 a second time too. Really enjoying it.

"Through the Burning Steppe" by Elena Kozhina

It's a memoir (WWII) about a young girl and her family being displaced from Leningrad.
I'm having mixed feelings about certain things but it is undoubtedly compelling as these memoirs usually are.

In the last week I finished "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer. This was a really good book, but it made me really angry! Senseless waste makes me angry, and this tragedy should not have happened! However, I'm glad I read it! It was written with real passion, and I was drawn into the lives of the climbers.

After that, I read "The Deep End of the Ocean". While I'm glad I read this book, I can't say that I really enjoyed it. As a parent, reading anything about kidnapping, makes me really nervous. I'm sure I'll spend the next little while watching my kids a lot more heavily!

Now, I'm on to "The Lost Symbol." So far, I'm enjoying it, although it doesn't seem to have the excitement of "Angels and Demons" (which is my favorite Dan Brown novel). I'm glad to be reading it, though!

After that, I'll move on to "House of Sand and Fog."

Just reread Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Have you seen the movie? I haven't read the book but that movie really got to me. I was actually quite depressed after watching it (not saying it was a bad movie, just left me with that feeling of overwhelming sadness after watching).
I'll be curious to see what you think of the book, please come back and post your thoughts. :)

No, I haven't seen the movie. I would never have picked the book out myself, but it was recommended here on the DIS. So, I'll try it. I'll let you know what I think.

I found an article about the book I'm reading. I told you guys I was reading it in French. It came out in French in 2006. But it looks like it came out in English last year. If you guys are interested, here it is. http://www.stieglarsson.com/Millennium-series

They are books by Stieg Larsson. A Swedish author, if I'm not mistaking.

Has anyone read The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton?

It was recommended by someone that is not a huge reader but said it's very good. I was wondering if any of my "reading buddies" have heard of or read it.

I'm seeking more mystery novels along the same lines as Dresden Files or the Bones novels.

Well, I rushed to finish a bunch of stuff before Christmas, and then devoured the one book I got for Christmas, so here goes:

Not By a Longshot: A Season at a Hard Luck Racetrack- Although most of the horse racing related books I read are geared towards the enthusiast, this one's really good and I think a non-fan can enjoy it.

Tesio- I had such high hopes for this memorandum about horse breeding penned by a great breeder of the past. It failed at every turn...plus I'm left honestly wondering if the author was a fascist.

The Tales of Beadle the Bard- Amusing, but too short.

The Gathering Storm- Twelth and newest of the Wheel of Time series, and one of the best.

Six Frigates- I got this for my Dad, who read it and gave it back to me. I'm currently reading it and it's pretty good so far.

I'm also in the middle of The Ladies of Grace Adieu, Game of Thrones, and The Graveyard Book, but I started those a while back and have been taking my time.
