A friend of mine has recommended Girl With a Pearl Earring...
Has anyone read it and can say what you thought of it?

I read it a few years ago, and I remember liking it quite a bit. I can't remember much about it, so maybe it wasn't too memorable.

Right now I'm reading "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman" by Richard Feynman. It's for my book club this month. It's a book of essays by the man who helped on the Manhattan Project. Some of it I really like, and some of it is really technical (he's a physicist), and I don't understand. It's not something I would pick off the shelf to read, but it's ok.

Next up is "Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing," and "Playing for Pizza."

I read "Playing for Pizza". It was a cute book, I needed it at a difficult time. It was right after hurricane Dolly, when we were without power for 4 1/2 days. I spent many hours just lying on the couch reading that book by a flashlight.

Right now I'm reading "The Wedding" by Danielle Steel. I'm enjoying it, mindless fluff-my kind of book!

Just finished Kate McAlister's Crouching Vampire Hidden Fang, its the second book in her Dark Ones series. I love the main character Pia, she is hilarious and a plus size gal like me so I really get where she is coming from. And Kristoff is very yummy. The first book in the series was called Zen adn the Art of Dragons.

Not sure what i'll pick up next, I'll probably head to the library on Thursday.

Thanks, Glynis~
I have a hard time remembering books I read a few years ago, even if they were memorable!
I'll give it a go...

Dead Sleep by Greg Iles. I just started but am enjoying it. I just finished Blood Memory by the same author and it was very good. All of his books have been good reads.

Did you read the "Wideache" Trilogy from Phillipa Gregory? wonderful, wonderful books. "The Queen's Fool" is also very good.

If you interested in these kind of books a great site is www.phillipagregory.com I have read many books recommended on this site.....
Thanks for these recommendations! I hear that The Bolelyn Inheritance is better than The Other Boleyn Girl... at least that's what my DS's guidance counselor thought. I like this author's style of writing. I'll check these out!
Have you read "The Autobiography of Henry VIII"? I think the author is Margaret George. It's wonderful!!! I read it several years ago and loved it!
That sounds good. I was in my car this morning and listening to Martha Stewart Radio. It was before 7:00 and Whatever was on and they were discussing Henry VIII. I didn't know that speculation is that because he was easy/sleazy, with <ahem> diseases, that is what kept him from having an heir. I just thought it was old swimmers by the time he married Anne Boleyn.

I have Blood Memory on my shelf. It sounded good when I read the synopsis. I bought it at the library from the sale rack for 50 cents.

I just finished Water for Elephants. I thought it was great!

I also just finished The Hunger Games, which was quite different. It is actually a young adult book, but pretty interesting. It had a Battle Royale type of plot, where 24 teens are forced to fight in a nationally televised death match where only one person can survive. Easy reading, but pretty thought provoking.

I think I might read Glass Castles next. I've picked it up a few times but couldn't really get into it. So many people say it is outstanding though, so I think I'll give it another try!

Hasn't anyone read anything lately? I just finished The Book Thief. Wow. Wondeful. I read it is being made into a movie in 2010. I don't know if I could handle that-at least not in public. That might have to be a rental with my own Kleenex box beside me!
I just started The Keep last night. Haven't decided if I will continue.

I just finished "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson. Wow! I haven't been this impressed by a book on a while. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book due out at the end of July.

Currently reading Memoirs of a Geisha. Very interesting book, which I'm enjoying.

American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld

I'm enjoying it. It's about a president's wife and the main character is a recognizable former first lady (although it is fiction), but I'm trying not to think about that as I read the book. Although, it's hard, and when I do think about it, I'm wondering how much of it is true.

I just got my kindle and downloaded Girl with dragon tatoo and the new Jodi Piccoult plus some classics I never have read. I have three cups of tea in hard copy and need to read that for book club.

I loved Memories of a Geisha. So interesting.

I love summer, with re-runs on TV, I read a ton. And with it light out long, I can read outside. Even nicer.

Such a Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster. If you've never read her and have a snarky, sarcastic sense of humor, READ HER NOW. You'll love her.
