What Are You Reading Right Now?

I'm in the middle of reading Animal Farm by George Orwell. It's as good as I remember when I read it the first time back in high school.

I just finished "The Hour I First Believed" by Wally Lamb. He wrote "She's Come Undone" and "I Know This Much is True", both of which I LOVED. This was another gem, I spent most of Sunday reading it. I could not put it down, even to go out on a lovely Florida day.

A former employee RAVED over the Historian and loaned me her copy. I couldn't get into it either.

I just got done with the new Kim Harrison and the two new Carrie Vaughn books. All of them were entertaining and easy reads but Kim Harrison is one of my favorite authors, so that one I loved.

You really liked them? I have been considering trying them too.

I am in the middle of Mr and Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy by Sharon Lathan. I am a sucker for all the "sequels" of Pride & Prejudice that are out there. This one is OK, although so far there really hasn't been much plot. Just Lizzy and Mr. Darcy rapturously in love, and making lots of whoopee at Pemberly.

The Carrie Vaughn books are okay- I enjoy them and they're easy reads, but if she never wrote another one I wouldn't be upset, if that makes sense.

The Kim Harrison books I really enjoy- although I am from Cincinnati which is where they are set. One of the characters in the Rachel Morgan books is a pixie named Jenks who curses using Tinker bell's name LOL. It is definitely dark urban fantasy though, there are werewolves, vampires, and all manner of other whatnot thrown in.

I went to the library yesterday and picked a couple books from the sale cart--The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton which I really like and Star Trek #21--Uhura's Song.

The Outsiders isn't very thick so I'm almost done with it already. I'm probably going to start Uhura's Song today or tomorrow. I really like the Star Trek novels and I've gotten about a dozen or so from the library's sale cart over the last few months.

I just finished reading the three Godfather novels ("The Godfater" by Mario Puzo and "The Godfather Returns" and "The Godfather's Revenge" by Mark Winegardner). So now I'm on The Tommyknockers by Stephen King. Problem is, it has about 550 pages and I'm a really slow reader. I've had it out from the library for about 3 weeks and am only through about 175 pages. So I have a LONG way to go!

I really liked The Historian. It took me a long while to get into it, too. Once I got past the beginning boring part, I got sucked in. It was the first historical fiction that I ever read. I really liked the story in Instanbul, Budapest and Transylvania/Romania. It wasn't as all-encompassing as Angels and Demons... that book took about 180 pages to finally get interesting and then I couldn't put it down. The Historian wasn't that riveting, but very good nonetheless.

I've read everything that James Patterson has written with the exception of the Maximum Ride series after the first one. When the Wind Blows and The Lake House were wonderful. Once he changed Maximum into a young adult series, he lost me.

And, when I say I've read ALL of Patterson's work, I really mean all of it. I even bought Santa Kid and read it to my DD's class at school before we donated it to the school library.

The Hundred Days by Patrick O'Brian. It means I'm nearly finished with the Aubrey/Maturin series, which makes me quite sad. What a great story it is! I shall miss Captain Jack and the good doctor.

I literally just put down the Book Thief, and thought it was great. One of the best books I have read in some time.

The Knitting Club - pretty good
The Shack - not my cup of tea
The Almost Moon - didn't care for it
I know this Much is True - going down on my list of favorites!

Since you liked the Book Thief, and I'd love to hear what you think of another of his books, "I Am the Messenger." I finished that a couple of weeks ago, and would love to hear what others think.

I just finished Blue Skies by Robyn Carr. It's about a start up airline not long after 9/11 a la romantic style, fiction. I loved it!
