Overall, Kristen Hannah can be "girly"; however, I do recommend "Winter Garden." It has a ton of historical fiction regarding a certain period of time in Russia (one that I wouldn't necessarily care for but it really grabbed me) and the story is real tearjerker of a woman's very hard life. Not girly at all but I know what you mean by that as some of her other stuff was.

I'm kind of in to the historical fiction and really enjoyed "My Name Is Mary Sutter" about a woman who wanted to become a doctor during the start of the civil war. Everything about the book from character development to just the right mix of creating atmosphere made it an excellent and memorable read for me.

I enjoyed My Name is Mary Sutter. Her tenacity was amazing.
I have read 3 Kristin Hannah books Winter Garden was by far my favorite. The other ones were Firefly Lane and Between Sisters.

I just started The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

"If Disney Ran Your Hospital" by Fred Lee was just handed to me by our Community Relations Manager. Can't wait to get started.

I'm reading Favorite Wife: Escape from Polygamy. This is my 3rd polygamy book since Friday. :rotfl: So far none of them have lived anywhere near the quality of life that is portrayed in Big Love and Sister Wives.

Those are great books! By the time I got to the last one, I was staying up late just to try to read more!

Those are good fun ... plan to revisit again soon.

Has anyone read either of the below?

The Killer of Little Shepherds: A True Crime Story and the Birth of Forensic Science

Atlantic: Great Sea Battles, Heroic Discoveries, Titanic Storms, and a Vast Ocean of a Million Stories

I have read, Winter Garden, and Firefly Lane. I enjoyed them both. Winter Garden took a lot of time to draw me in, but in the end I was glad it did. There was a myriad of sadness, strife, and a lack of endearing characteristics (hopefully I didn't give away too much). At times it was annoying to read the proverbial (repeated) beating of heads against a wall with no advancement. I almost threw in the towel a few times, but it all came together. I do recommend the book.

I enjoyed both Winter Garden & Firefly Lane by this author. I also read Between Sisters, which was just OK. Nothing great but worth the read. I really liked the other 2.

I haven't, but have added them to my list. They look very interesting! Have you read The Lost City of Z by David Grann? Parts of it reminded me of Up!

I'm reading The Passage and can hardly put it down! I was #182 on the library list since July. When I picked it up last week and saw how it was 800 pages and I only had two weeks til it was due, I almost gave it back. Glad I didn't. I may have to pay .10cents a day late fee, but it'll be worth it!

I'm reading The Passage as well. I'm struggling because it's going very slow. I am a little over 200 pages in and that's after reading it for a week. Part of my problem is not having much time to read last week but it still seems to be going slowly. I'm enjoying it but I'm a little bored too.

Keep at it! I remember when I read it this summer I felt it plodded a bit in the early going. Once I had the time to devote to reading and got further along--it was a great read.

I have not ... shall have to check out.

The ones that I listed had good reviews in Entertainment Weekly this past week, so just wondered if anyone had read yet. They do sound good...

Oh, forgot to mention, I picked up Bel Canto last night at the library. I can't wait to start it today. Hopefully, my strep throat won't keep me in bed, sleeping, all day again today.

Oh, I'm so anxious to read that! I requested it from our Library! Can't wait to hear what you think about it.

I forgot to mention what I'm reading now. While I wait for my library to find more books about Fawcett, I'm reading Dark Banquet by Bill Schutt. It's fascinating!
