What are you paying for a Hotel room in Buffalo? I think I've been ripped off!

On Oct 5, 2011, my family and I, along with another family, stayed at the Holiday Inn Express across from the airport. We were flying out to WDW the next morning. We had booked this a few weeks before and at the time of our booking I requested 2 rooms with parking and airport shuttle. I was told at the time that it would be $179.99 plus taxes for both rooms. I repeated it back to the person who took the reservation (it was a male) and said “$179.99 plus taxes for both rooms, correct?” and they responded “Yes”.

Upon our arrival on the evening of Oct 5, 2011, My family and I checked in and I informed the person behind the desk that the other family would be along shortly, but that I would take care of the room charges and handed her my credit card. A couple of hours later a bill was put under my door for $184.99 plus taxes. I was not going to argue about $5 and left it at that.

This past weekend, I was chatting with my friends, whose family travelled with us and he told me that upon his arrival at your hotel, he was also asked for his credit card and was charged the same thing! $184.99 plus taxes! I am not sure where the confusion happened, but I were told $179.99 for both rooms, meaning $89.99 per room. Not $184.99 per room! I have stayed in Buffalo many times to fly and have never been charged more than $90 to $100for a room. I usually get them for $70 to $80.

I phone the General Manager at the Holiday Inn Express and told her what happend and her response was that, yes, the price for one room with Parking is $179.99. I told her that was rediculous and she told me all the hotels on that strip across form the airport are basically the same cost. They check all the time and are "Very Competative". She then offered to credit back my CC for the $5 mistake plus taxes. I asked her is she was serious and she told me "yes". I told her is was unacceptable and I would be taking it to Hart Hotels.

This is a complete and utter rip off. The room was not even a nice room and the beds were terrible. Sorry for my rant, but I wanted you all to know for future reference......

I don't know Buffalo but at Providence that is what I pay for the park and fly for one room. That is pretty standard. That question can be confusing. People get confused between both and each. I probably would have asked them what the total charge would be for the two rooms.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the rate for one room. We've found that prices at the newer hotels closest to the airport have gone up a lot in the past 2-3 years. We used to get rates in the $125 range at the Homewood Suites near the airport. Now they're over $200 a night. The differential between the room only rate and the park n fly rate has gone up too.

We are staying at the Staybridge Suites (booked through Trinity Reservations) for $99 including parking. The hotel is farther from the airport, but shuttle is included. My parents couldn't get a room there for their dates, so they're paying in the $140 range for room and 21 days parking at the Comfort Suites.

I think that with the Buffalo airport becoming more popular with Canadians and more Canadians doing cross border shopping, the demand is high enough for hotel rooms that the hotels can charge more now than they could when our dollar was worth so much less and Canadians weren't crossing the border.

Sorry for the confusion about the rate you paid. I hate surprises like that!

Pretty sure that is the rate because of the two week parking included. I know we have stayed there a few times and once it was much cheaper to park over at the airport after our overnight because we were just flying out for a long weekend. It used to be alot cheaper but I do think it is a comparable rate to what other hotel on that strip charge. You have to be sooo carefull that you book the long term parking rate, not just the regular overnight, there is usually a drastic difference in the two

I bid on Priceline and get the 3.5* Buffalo Marriot Niagara for $60 a few days before leaving. You can leave your vehicle for free parking and take shuttle to airport.

This is one of the few who include parking but keep in mind they are farther from the airport and I wonder if they will change this when the reno is done, I suspect they are doing this for now to keep people coming back. I do like their beds tho, very comfy and I love Red Robin just down the road on Maple!

The website lists the price as $189.99 for the room with parking if you were to check in this week.

Hilton Garden Inn is $204 for the parking package.

Fairfield is $199 for the parking package.

it's hard to interpret words OP, I am sorry you were misunderstood but the terminology is a bit vague and chalk it up to lesson learned to perhaps say "So $179 is the combined total price for both rooms and not per room" or somesuch.

Honestly though that seems to be a pretty decent rate to include parking per room.

we have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express quite a few times and usually leave our vehicle at their lot (for 12-14 days) and we have paid $179 in the past. This charge was for a one-night stay and parking for the duration. If we're lucky it's sometimes about $10-15 less, but generally the same amount as you were charged.

That sounds about right for a park and fly. When you reserve from a 3rd party like hotels.com or expedia you're comparing apples to oranges. They can't guarantee your room type and there can be some mystery about what hotel you're actually bidding on. Didn't they send you a confirmation email. Most places will send one. Its basically your responsibility to read it and be certain it's correct.

This is where we stay whenever we do Park N Fly. Yes it's farther away, but at less than 1/2 the price of HIE, I think it's worth that drive! Big pool, and lots of room for the five of us (10,8 and 4 yr old kids). Looking forward to staying there again the next time we head to the US.
