What are you office/work pet peeves?

I have two big ones.

1. Reusing file folders. I'm not sure why this bugs me so much, but my supervisor refuses to throw these out! She just crosses out the old title and writes the new one on. I think it just looks sloppy and disorganized.

2. Unnecessary paperwork. I swear, I think WE need a paperwork reduction act where I work! So many forms to fill out, records to keep. Much of it is really pointless as it is.

Oh yeah one more.

3. Saving every single piece of paperwork. I can't believe how much crap my supervisor saves! Her filing cabinet is stuffed with old files and most of it's JUNK. I know certain things need to be saved, but we are talking about every last memo.

People who make more work for EVERYONE because they don't know how to use email efficiently. There is a woman here who will print out an email to have someone TYPE IN the info!!!!!

You're kidding me?!? Now THAT'S just sad.

People using speakerphone in a sea of cubicles. Nobody wants to hear your conversation, especially when you set up your doctor's appointments, call your insurance company because you didn't miss the deer when you swerved, or to hear you sweet talk the cable company because you missed your payment and the service got turned off.

I work in a non-profit and I'd be in trouble if I didn't reuse file folders - and anything else that can be reused.

I hate speakerphone too!

I really hate when I am trying to Dis and they keep interrupting me expecting me to actually work!!

Ugh! How about the guy I work with who waits until 4:30 to give me work to process. This means that I have to rush to get it ready, because it probably has things in it that need to be mailed, and I take the mail out at 4:30.

I don't understand why he insists on doing this, since HE has had this paperwork all day!

ACK, I also had to add my boss, who on the day before Thanksgiving let me know that I was free to leave 5 minutes early. Now come on, 5 minutes? Woopee!

People who leave their cell phone in their cubicle where it rings and plays some annoying tune at the loudest setting over and over and over and over and over............

This woman I work with eats hard candy all day and smacks it constantly. To me it is like fingernails down a chalk board.

To tell you how loud it is, she is 4 offices down from me. My friend sits in the office next to me and I have even gone as far as to say (quit loudly) T are you eating candy? She will say no why. I will say 'cause I keep hearing this loud smacking noise like someone is sucking on candy(of course T knows what I am doing), but does this lady get the hint?? Noooo.

oh, where do I start...
1- companies, like mine, who keep bad employees around because they've been here so long and they feel bad. One of the people who works under me is awful but they keep her here because she's been here for five years. She's an "editor" but can't perform any of her editorial duties and has been reduced to answering the phone.
2- dress code, or lack of one. We used to be part of a large corporation and had a business casual dress code. My section was bought by private investors and we are now a small company and have been for 2 years. They never released a dress code and now people come in their sweats and sneaks, flip flops, and logo tee-shirts down to their knees. I mean, take some pride in yourself, it's still an office. And the best part is when our new owner comes by he apparently gets mad because people are wearing jeans and sneaks! Well, if you don't want them to then establish a dress code!
3- lastly, I'll stop because I can keep going but I can't stand when I say good morning to someone or hello and they look right at me and say nothing. We have several people at our office like that, but I am a sucker and keep saying hello anyway!

:rotfl: Ok, I do this one! I have certain things that I do on a semester by semester basis (I work at a college.) Once the semester begins, I don't really need that stuff anymore so I empty the folders and reuse it for the next semester. I use post-its to label them, though, so they don't have to be crossed out. :teeth:

My pet peeves this week all involve crazy co-workers--not really any processes or paperwork issues. All the faculty and students go crazy at the end of the semester. Only 2 more weeks, thank heavens! They've been all wound up this week. Hissy fits all over the place. It's exhausting.

Office politics. Not with the men, with the women. If you don't get *in* with their little group you're talked about and trashed. Needless to say, I prefer to spend my social time (lunch etc...) with the men.

People who leave their cell phone on ring.

Speakerphone abusers.

Bossy co-workers. Not in an instructional way, in a "my way or you pay with my cruddy attitude" way. We're decorating our office tree today and I had to leave because well.. she was there. Bossing us around like we were in pre-school.

People in my company that think they can talk down to me because im only 26!

1) MY BOSS! he's my biggest pet peeve. Some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth, honestly. And he only ever gives half instructions and gets mad when i can't read his mind. I honestly think he doesn't train me well so that he'll always be needed.

2) The guy in the cubicle next to me slurps his coffee and sighs after every sip. And he listens to terrible music which i am forced to listen to also.

My boss and I share an office for a small family company (not mine) and after lunch he sits over at his desk across from me and sucks his teeth. Drives me insane.

I'm bad about this. I'm affraid I'll throw something out I'll need, so I just keep everything.

Wow, where to begin!?!? Here's a few...

1) A policy, or way of doing things, etc. because it's policy, or "that's the way we do it" regardless of how much sense it makes.

2) No response, call back, etc. You're waiting for someone to give you an answer...and they never get back to you. Not even "I'm working on it" just no response.

3) People who don't start a minute before the official work day starts, and won't stay a minute longer than 5:00.

Playing music or the radio over the computer. The girl next to me plays Latino rap music. :badpc: Please, invest in some headphones!

I also hate when people take vacation days one day at a time without scheduling them beforehand. Basically, just not coming in and then paying themselves vacation time.
