What are you having for Christmas Dinner?

We are serving carrot and coriander soup for starter. For main, turkey, roast potato, mashed potato, fresh veg (sprouts, roast parsnip, carrots, peas, cauliflower cheese), stuffing, sausage wrapped in bacon and cranberry sauce. For desert christmas pudding (made by the MIL) with brandy or rum custard or a diabetic desert for my dad and SIL who doesn't like christmas pud! Then for later christmas cake (with Wensleydale cheese - a Yorkshire tradition!!) or mince pies, both thanks to my mum. Oh and it all washed down with Vuerve Cliquoit champagne.

Sounds delicious Karen! :goodvibes

Glad I started this thread!! It all sound yummy!

Emma - Sorry that you aren't getting your prawn cocktail! That sucks.

I'm going on Friday to order our gammon and turkey, it's exciting organising it all. The kids are looking forward to the pulling of the crackers as I have put them on the tree and told them not to touch! :rotfl:

I don't want her there, but i want my brother there. We have never had Christmas dinner without him.

Alot of things are too much for my mum at the moment, but she loves her family Christmas dinners and this year my Brother won't be there and shes upset about it. But the only way my Brother would have dinner with us if my mum allowed the SIL's mum to have dinner with us and that is too much for my mum to take on at the moment.

Since my sister got married they alternate the Christmas with our parents & the In laws (although my sister & BIL prefer my mums cooking:rotfl2:) It was strange at first but it turned out ok. Just enjoy it with your mum, dad, Kyra. At least this way it won't be spoiled by the future in law:thumbsup2

Maybe you can convince your mum between now & Christmas, if not make it yourself:goodvibes

I'll be having whatever Virgin serve up and then hopefully a pineapple dole whip float in MK.

We have 2 extra family members to cater for this Christmas so here are our ideas so far

Starter = none (if I am spending hours in the kitchen on Xmas day instead of playing with the kids then I want empty plates :rotfl2:)
Main = Turkey, Pork & Gammon with all the usual trimming + yorkshires for the kids (or I will never hear the end of it)
Dessert = Double Chocolate Fruit & Nut Christmas Bombe OR Christmas Pudding Pavlova (not doing both - I am not Nigella :lmao:)

Mmmmm...... this thread is making me feel ravenous!! :rotfl:

This year we will be having something off the menu at Tony's, MK. :yay:

I have decided to have a trial run at the Fruit & Nut Christmas Bombe today :santa: Who knew that it was so hard to get the skins off pistachio nuts

It was your Christmas Pudding Pavlova I was getting quite excited about, is it your own recipe or from a recipe online? Would love to give it a try.

It was something I tried a few years back because everyone was saying they only wanted a little Christmas Pudding (the usual comment "just to say I have had some" kept cropping up) -

I made it up as I went along but it went down very well. I started on Xmas Eve by soaking some orange segments in Cointreau ;) After Christmas dinner I topped individual size meringue nests with a little warm pudding - popped the orange segments on top and then served it with some pouring cream (double is best) with more Cointreau in it (as much or as little to your own taste really).

I love anything meringue based so I was pleased I incorporated it into our Christmas Menu :thumbsup2

The Christmas Bombe is now in the freezer :) We are going to try it tomorrow evening when my sister is here to vet it with us. The inside of it includes: apricots, cherries, currants, pistachio nuts, white chocolate, double cream and Cointreau (I see a pattern here :rotfl2:) I just hope it tastes as nice as it looks.

Thanks Mrs Pegasus, will give that a try and like you I like anything meringue based and if its got cointreau in it thats even better.:thumbsup2

Look forward to hearing how the Christmas Bombe turns out.:goodvibes

Loving the sound of your desserts Mrs Pegasus :thumbsup2

We don't have a starter for Christmas dinner - the first thing I ever eat on christmas Day is a piece of turkey - yum!

We will be having turkey, lush gammon (that's what the kids call it but, basically, it's Sainsbury's Taste the Difference smoked gammon), extra crispy roast potatoes (the one day of the year I cook my potatoes with fat instead of Fry Light :rotfl:), pigs in blankets, sausagemeat stuffing (plus extra stuffing balls for Nat to eat on Boxing day ;)), brussels, carrots, parsnips and yourkie puds for the kids (and me).

For pud, we are having Madagascan Vanilla and Chocolate Cheesecake (for me, Sain and Gary) and trifle (Rea and Daniel). Like so many others, we don't like Christmas cake or pud. The kids and Gary have mince pies but we save them for later in the evening when we're opening our pressies :thumbsup2

Oh, I'm getting all excited now - can't wait for my Christmas dinner.

Does anyone else not have turkey (or anything else that you have for Christmas) during the rest of the year. We only ever eat turkey in our house at Christmas - not because we don't like it but because, for me, it makes it that bit more special :) Am I weird???

we never have turkey thoughout the year, not for any reason though we just always seem to have chicken or beef.:confused3

Turkey and all the trimmings for us too, you can't beat it. We probably won't have a starter, and we may have jelly & ice-cream for dessert as everyone in my house (except me) doesn't like mince pies, Christmas pudding or Christmas cake :santa:

Mmmmm Jelly and ice cream lol i am now calling my mum to make sure thats on the menu i loveeee it!

mmm sone great ideas :thumbsup2
we usually have

s-prawn cocktail, husband has melon too
d- chicken, roast potatoes, roast carrots, mini sausages in bacon, sweetcorn, brussel sprouts, mini sausages, yorkshires and loads of bread sauce.
d- trifle, husband will have christmas pudding with brandy butter as well.

:santa: :santa: :santa:

I have put a couple of pics on Facebook - this is how it turned out http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=12001&id=100000135859004&l=def71c7132

Still not sure if we are going to have it for Xmas Dinner but I am going to make another and stick it in the freezer - just in case ;)

We have the traditional turkey etc., but done the lazy way with lots of help from Mr Sainsbury and Aunt Bessie.
