Can someone help me with pigs in blankets? I am familiar with the concept but I've never made them. Any quick and easy recipes? Do you buy your pastry?

My DH has just put me right. We have those every year - I just didn't know what they were called. For some reason I thought that it was a sausage/pastry combo.

We are haivng christmas day just the two of us, and we love roasts so much that we wont be having a starter so we can fit more in.

I am doing a Ham on Xmas eve so we'll have that as well as:

Turkey
Stuffing
Pigs in Blankets
Cauliflower Cheese
Roast potatoes and parsnips
Yorkshire puddings (I know we arent having beef, but i LOVE them)
Sugar snap peas
Carrots
Bread Sauce - nummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Gravy
Cranberry sauce

For dessert we have a little Xmas pudding and a little chocolate pudding, so we'll have half each of those.

And copious chocolates I'm sure!

Can I just ask ho much time do you guys spend in the kitchen every xmas ?? We have a big meal xmas eve so all the time on xmas day is spent together we still have turkey but its left vers from xmas eve

My mom and I do it between us, she usually prepares the veggies at home and brings them with her, then I throw the turkey in the oven, this year I am slow cookering some gammon too so that will go in as soon as we get up.

Maybe we spend an hour actually in the kitchen dishing up and carving etc. We have it down to a fine art now!

We don't cook on Christmas eve as both DH and I will be working in the shop until 7pm with the last minute shoppers clearing us out.

We tend to go to my Mums on Xmas Eve as she puts a bit of a spread on for all her kids and Grandkids. It also gives us the chance to exchange gifts so we don't have to go driving around on Xmas Day. (I have always hated the thought of giving the kids loads of presents in the morning then taking them out in the afternoon for hours so they don't get a chance to play with them.)

When we get back xmas eve me and DW will prep most of the veggies so it's less to do the next day. When all is said and done though we probably only spend about the same amount of time as we would for a normal Sunday dinner.

Personally not cooking on a xmas day sounds like a fantastic idea to me - unfortunately we have family around this year so I don't think we will get away with not doing it.

I would say about an hour, as the turkey gets cooked on Xmas eve & the veggies get prepared then too. All that is done on Xmas day is cook the pork & veggies

I don't spend that long in the kitchen. Admittedly I'm only cooking for the 4 of us but I cheat whenever I can and am not embarrassed to us frozen roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings, we have a turkey breast joint as we seldom eat the dark meat and I hate the smell of the cold carcass. I do have fresh veg but I've even bought that ready prepared some years.

At the end of the day as long as the family enjoy the meal and I enjoy the day I don't care how many corners I cut.

I spend as little as time possible in the kitchen on Christmas Day. I like to prepare all my veggies and anything that can be prepared on Christmas Eve afternoon. Still cook my turkey on Christmas Day though. Hubbie usually helps as for some weird reason he seems to enjoy peeling and cutting up veggies.
