What are you getting your 9 year old boy for Christmas?

My son will be 9 a couple weeks before Christmas. For his birthday, we will be giving him some gift cards that he can use for a membership at his favorite online game (Roblox). For Christmas, he is getting some books (He is really into the Ranger's Apprentice Series and Wimpy Kid) and a Lego Harry Potter Game.
We are also getting a Wii for the family + a bunch of games/accessories for everyone to share

My younger two (age 6 and 4) really want to see the Mickey's magic show so I'd like to get them tickets and then get tickets to some type of other show for my older two (I also have a 10 year old, and then my 9 year old)...so if I can find a show that would be good for my older boys I will get tickets to that too.

Star Wars Legos, Star Wars Legos, Star Wars Legos

Star Wars pajamas (fleece please)

He has Stratego and LOVES it. He also has the Lego Minatour game and loves that. He has the Clone Wars encyclopedia also and loves that.

Got him a digital camera (cheap, like $35) for his birthday and he loves that.

No clothes, he hates clothes. Other than fleece pajamas, that is.

We have twins. LOL
I was wiondering about those Lego games-thanks for the recommendation-I wasn;t sure if they were any good.

My 9yo wants lots of Lego's, Atlantis, Space Police, World Racers, City, Power Miners and he just added Harry Potter. He also wants some Bakugan toys and wii and ds games.

Not sure how much he'll get this year, the last two years hasn't been much under the tree since we went to Disney for Christmas, now have to look at what I have and set the budget.

I need my son to make a list! I have a feeling he's going to be hard this year. Maybe it's just because I'm already done with his 13 year old sister so I feel behind.

I just picked up Quirkle on an Amazon lightning deal. Had it on my 'potentials' list when I was researching other ideas and decided to pull the trigger. Already got him a DS game, I'm sure I could add more. Legos are a possibility...his sister might get miffed if I get him the Harry Potter ones though. LOL He wants a beanbag since she got one this week for her birthday. And I'm looking at the upgrade kit for his snap circuits, because he really enjoyed getting that set last year. (As did his uncles who got to play with them.) :goodvibes

I'm kind of behind so all these ideas are great.

DS will be 9 on 12/21 and he so far has asked for 2 video games. Pokemon Park? for the wii and Donkey Kong returns which might be Wii or DS.

We celebrate Hanukkah, but he's getting an iPod touch, Star Wars legos sets, Wii/DS games, and some stuff from his favorite soccer team, Chelsea.

The Nerf Stampede is also on our son's list. He's getting a refurb iPod Touch and some Lego.

Everyone has some great ideas, but I have another problem.

What do you do when the only thing your 9 year old asks for is 2 video games rated M for Mature?! We won't allow our son to play games rated M, but he says all his friends have them and that is all he wants!

I am not planning on buying them, but what do we do? We have asked and asked and he says he doesn't want anything other than the games. I can come up with some ideas of what I think he might like, but I really wanted to buy something he wants. He doesn't believe in Santa anymore.

If your rule is "no M rated games," then you should not buy them. If you want to change it to "no M rated games we haven't approved" then you would have more wiggle room (if that is what you want). You could rent (or maybe borrow from the friend) the game to see if you object to it. If you do object, don't buy it and tell them they need to be older. I would figure out how much older they need to be in advance because they will definitely ask.

If you don't want them to have that game, I would tell your 9 year old that they won't be getting those games because the rule is no M rated games, so they better think of something else they'd like instead because you aren't changing the rule. The "all the other kids have it" will be a constant refrain, so they might as well learn now that just because others get something, doesn't mean they do.

Try taking him to some stores to look around, like Gamestop, to see if he comes up with some more appropriate ideas.

Not easy being a parent, sometimes. But if the rule is no "M-Rated" games, then that's the rule. I, personally, think that at nine years old its a pretty good rule, too. Hang in there !

Thanks Mickey Maker & Mrsbornkuntry! I like both of your ideas! He loves Gamestop, so maybe I will just go buy the games and check them out when he is sleeping! One is for the Xbox, so I know I will have to buy that used. With Gamestop's return policy, I can always return it for instore credit if we don't approve due to the maturity issue! Thanks for the help!:goodvibes

I have a son who just turned 8.

So far I know he's getting (from us or grandparents) Toy Story 3 for DSi, How to Train Your Dragon for DSi, AirHogs Hawkeye (with video cam), a chemistry kit, a Lego set (not sure which yet), Snap Circuits, and a see-through, take apart model of the human body. He's also asked for a laser alarm clock (you have to shoot it with a laser gun to turn it off) and a Gryffindor tie that we'll probably get him. Not sure what else.
