What are you doing on Sunday after the full marathon

Hi, Running the full marathon in Jan on the Sunday. Assuming to be done around 11 - 11:30. Probably too late in the day to go to Animal kingdom or any park? Any suggestions on what to do for the day? Would love to hear what everyone else's plans are.

Are you going to a park that day?

Also would like help in deciding on whether to go to AK or Universal?

When I did the full I used Sunday as a rest day. I was running with 2 friends and we all met up after in the parking lot, spent about 30-45 minutes walking around to cool down, and then headed back to the room. We showered and took naps and then headed to AKL for a celebratory dinner at Boma. We didn't even consider doing a park that day.

I'm also registered for the full on Sunday. Our line of attack is the family is going to do animal kingdom and I'm going to soak in a nice long bath at the room. No park for me that day (heck technically I will have been to all them already =p) just relaxing and recovery.

My plan is to run, go back to the room and take a bath, take a nap, and head out to a park.

I have found, after my half marathons and long runs, that walking around really is the best medicine. Of course, who knows if I will feel the same after 26.2. :confused3 :rotfl:

This next marathon will be my 3rd WDW Marathon in a row. For the first in 2011, I had not been to Disney in several years and was only staying for a long weekend. I was not going to miss any chance to be in the parks. After having a post race snack and cleaning up, I spent the rest of the day at Epcot.

The next year my husband and I ran together (I did Goofy). It was a special time and again we did not want to miss anything, so we went to Epcot and stayed for the fireworks.

This year the whole family is going - our kids are running the half with us, hubby and I are doing Goofy. The kids haven't been to Disney for ages, so again we'll be at a park on Sunday.

I think if were a more frequent Disney visitor, I would just chill on Sunday. (At the rate I'm going, this may become an annual tradition and I a regular at WDW.) On the other hand, it's good to keep moving (albeit slowly) after you race to aid recovery.

There is no way I would go to the parks after the Goofy. That day will be all about recovery and taking it easy since the Tinkerbell is so close.

I'm planning to finish around 10:00-10:30 so I plan to see DW and DD's at the finish line. They'll catch the monorail to MK and I'll catch the monorail to our resort (CR) for a shower and then meet them at MK.

Since it's a EMH night even for MK, we may come back to the room for a nap late afternoon, but we're primarily going for the new Fantasyland Expansion. I imagine we'll do a few of our fave attractions, but I plan to take it EASY! I imagine I'll enjoy attractions like TTA, COP, WDW Railroad, and other, I get to sit for a little while attractions. :)

This will be my 1st full marathon so all this is subject to change based on how I feel, but everything I've been told is that walking some after a marathon is good for your legs.

Yeah, I won't be racing quite as quickly as Tinkerbell. I usually do the Run The Reagan 1/2 Marathon in early February. Where are you in Atlanta? I think it would be fun to meet up with some locals.

In the past, I have felt pretty good after the Marathon and Goofy. I really enjoyed getting out afterward. But it's not for everyone.

There is actually a 4 day DCL cruise that leaves at 5 the day of the marathon. I am soooo tempted to book it, but I don't know yet. Still thinking about it.

We're planning on heading to MK late that afternoon to meet up with some friends for dinner and catch the fireworks show. There are extra magic hours until 10 that night but not sure we'll make it that long! We're staying through Friday, so it wasn't very expensive to add an extra day to our parkhopper tickets.

Ice bath, shower and lunch followed by a glorious nap (1-1.5 hours). Probably some foam/Stick rolling in there too. Bit of relaxing, then out to the parks (EMH at Magic Kingdom)/celebratory dinner! :yay: I get to WDW once or twice per year (once per year more often than not) so I want to make every second count! :)

Ice bath, shower, then back to Epcot to eat my way around the World Lagoon, with a long stop in Germany. Seriously.
Going to the parks is a blast because its the best time to talk to a bunch of other runners. Also, it keeps you moving which is good too.

Beer, ice bath, shower, nap, and then on to Raglan Road and Paradiso for some rehydration. The real fun is on Monday when we Drink Around the World at Epcot, and then stick around for the fireworks.

This is what I would like to do, but this'll be my first marathon. So who knows?

Food, shower, nap, foam rolling. Then off to have some champagne and onto the Magic Kingdom for EMH. Any chance they will keep the Magic Kingdom open a little later? If so then I can have a longer nap.

If I'm totally destroyed from the marathon, maybe I'll just go to the after party at downtown Disney. Or just walk around the boardwalk area. That is after food, shower, nap, foam rolling and Champagne!

It's my first marathon too, so who knows what I'll feel like doing, but the plan is to go back to the hotel get cleaned up and recover and then head back to Epcot. Just planning some leisurely walking to keep the legs moving. We have an ADR for Biergarten that night at 6 and then depending how we feel either stay for fireworks or head back to the hotel. We also don't go to Disney often (this will only be our third trip and possibly the last - who knows?), so I don't want to miss out on park time if we can manage it.

It's a short weekend and I don't want to miss a day in the parks. Hopefully I'll be done by 12 (5-6 hours) and we'll run back to the room to shower, nap a little and we have a 5 PM ADR for Chef Mickey and most likely we'll be headed to MK for the night.

For those that do ice baths, do you get ice from the machine or just take really cold showers?

I got ice from the machines. It doesn't take much - maybe a bucket or two - to make a cold bath FREEZING! I think it's the soaking that is the benefit, so a cold shower won't do it. I like to have a hot drink to sip on while in the ice bath - helps make it tolerable. Oh, and I also usually have a long sleeve sweatshirt on.

Fill up the bucket from the ice machine. Fill up the tub with the coldest water out of the tap. Get into the tub. Then dump the ice in. Much easier to take than jumping strait into the ice.

Yeah, the shower doesn't cut it. I also wear a warm lycra top and/or wrap a towel around my upper body to keep it warm.

Scrub slime off of body. Eat. Walk (probably to Epcot) Eat more. Return to hotel. Hot Tub. Eat. Sleep.
