I read about people getting 'postcards' and being unable to use them or whatever, what are they? How do you get them? Is it just something they send out at random to people who have stayed there before? DO TELL!!!!

Postcards offering discounted rates are sometimes sent out by Disney as a marketing tool to attract specific people to plan vacations. They are generally restricted to be used only by the person the postcard was sent to.

There are lots of different reasons the marketing group might do this: to attract new visitors who have never visited, to entice return visitors to upgrade to more expensive resorts on a return visit, to spur interest from various geographic areas, to see if they can fill up resorts at typically lower occupancy times...

Thanks! So often I read things on this board and feel completely out of the loop! I really have to keep up on Disney stuff a bit more. ;)

Although they change slightly, here's what the latest set look like:

Is there a "mailing" list for these postcards or does Disney randomly select people who have previously stayed in the resorts?

They must randomly select. I received one this past April to stay at Pop Century for $56 a nite for summer. I didn't use it, but I posted it next to my computer so I could dream about it.

My husband and dd stay at POR in April 2003, so it was about a year they stayed there.

I just received a e-mail from the Disney Web Site to enter a sweepstakes and I never received that before. You can only enter once though, not every day.

we have been going at least twice a year and I have only received one and that was after a cancelled a trip

My post card looked a little different than that one. Kicker is it was to my address but not addressed to anyone in my family. Now we are the second owners of this home. An older couple had to move to a retirement home because of health reasons and I knew who they were and it wasn't even to someone in their family either.

So I don't know how that all works out. Too bad it wasn't for the time we were traveling.

I haven't been to WDW yet but I did get an emailed offer with the value resorts starting at $59 per night. This was sent as a result of me requesting the WDW vacation planning kit. I have no idea what chances are of getting these when you request that kit but it was so easy, I'd suggest trying. If nothing else, Disney will then have your email as well as home address to send these offers to in the future :p.

The Sept. room-only code ended up being a better deal but I was still happy to get about 25% off a woods view room at WL with the emailed offer.
