I 'm not feeling very well and sorta think it is my gallbladder. I have belching, nausea, bloating and burny feeling in my right and left upper abdomen. I know it's yukie but that's how I am feeling.:(

A gall bladder attack usually consists of a sharp pain in your right upper abdomen. It can be w/nausea, belching, heartburn, etc. or it can be just a sharp pain.

When in doubt--check it out! Make an appt. with your MD or if it the pain is severe enough, go to your Emergency Room.

I was having all the symptoms of a gall stones last summer. Had an ultrasound which showed nothing! No stones, which suprised both me and my doctor because I had every symptom!

What we think is that my stones are as small as a grain of sand that pass easily into the digestive tract. Doesn't mean they'll stay that small...but as long as I can deal with it, I'll avoid the surgery!

There's also something called a "sluggish gall bladder" which means it doesn't secret the juices needed to digest fat fast enough, causing some minor discomfort.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Blondie,
I'm thinking sluggish myself, but I have been sick for a week. I am at the point where I just want to feel like my old self again.

Please Amanda, make an appointment ASAP.

It may be nothing but indigestion, but it may be your gall bladder, or acid reflux. I'd want to know.

Good luck!

I had problems lying down to sleep at night and had to sleep sitting up. Burning, nausea, stomach pains. Had it and the stones removed 14 years ago (I have a big ol' honkin' scar across my abdomen - doesn't happen this way anymore, just a little scar). No problems since. I was extremely happy that I had it done.

Gallbladder attacks often have a pattern to them. Is the pain and bloating worse before or after eating? Are there certain foods that make it worse? Sometimes the pain can be mid chest making you think heart attack. The pain is often in the back too. I agree it is worth a simple ultrasound. Gallbladder disease can occasionally result in pancreatitis, which can be very serious. {{{Hugs}}}...hope you feel better soon.

You may also being having diverticulitis--infection of the colon. I had this after having a few small attacks like the one you described, and being sonogramed for gall stones--negative. Then I woke up one night in pain, threw up, cold/hot. Next a.m. I couldn't straighten up, but I had no fever. Finally went to the dr. who did a blood count, found out I had an infection. 50% of people who have diverticulitis end up being hospitalized for the infection because either they think it isn't too serious, or because the DR. doesn't do blood test and get antibiotics in quickly enough. Hope you get to feeling better.

Before I had my gall bladder removed 2 years ago, I had bad pains up under my ribs on the right side and very bad back pains, as if I had just carried a ton of bricks. I also felt very bloated at the time. Almost every one of my attacks occurred at night. I never had pain on my left side at all. I had my gall bladder removed laparoscopically, and now have 5 tiny scars.

Good luck with whatever it is, if the pain persists go get it checked out!!!

Mine was a horrible pain right in the upper middle of my stomach, right below the middle of my rib cage. It only happened at night. The first attack I had was within weeks of having a C-Section delivery with my first child. I had never had surgery before, so I just thought this pain was part of the C-Section.

Turns out my gallbladder was completely blocked by a stone. I also had the "old-fashioned" surgery like Deb....stayed in the hospital for a week, and I have a 6 inch diagonal scar.

With my gallbladder it was a sudden VERY sharp pain in the area of my appendix (or so I thought) and a feeling of "not feeling right". I went to the emergency room in fact because the pain was so sharp and steady, and I had no idea what was wrong. I'd never noticed any symptoms before so it surprised me.

I think it varies from person to person and I would definitely see my doctor if I were you. Good luck!

With the exception of the last month before I had surgery (luckily laprosopic), mine was all back pain. It felt like someone was stabbing me with a knife in the back. It wasn't until I went to a doctor for weight control, that he mentioned that and had a ultrasound done and we found the gallstones. I was very atypical with mine. Good luck finding out.
