Since Ive spilled the beans that dh is getting a promotion, lol, I am dying to know where we will wind up. Not like I have a lot of choice in the matter, they could tell us to go wherever whenever they want, but I would like to hear what is good and bad about where you live.

Thanks :)

NC is great!!!!! Read my thread, I Love Where I LIve....... You will be within driving distance to Disney.

good = beautiful, year-round weather.
bad = high cost of living & traffic congestion

Pro = Great weather year round, 2 hours from Disney, Low
cost of living, driving distance to beaches

Con = Fire ants!!!!!!

Honestly I love where I live. I love feeling as safe as I do. We don't worry about doors being locked and I can't say how many times I've closed the door at night with keys in the front lock still. I love the small community feel I have yet I am close to everything in the city.

The worst part honestly is being so far away from WDW!

I live in a small town called Trumbull CT, about an hour north of Manhattan. The good thing about my town is the location. It is an hour north of Manahttan, about 2 1/2 hours south of Boston, a short drive to many fun weekend vacation spots such as Cape Cod, Maine, Newport, Vermont, New Hampshire etc. The town has a nice small town feel.

The bad part is that it is expensive to live here.

Hollywood, FL- right between Miami and Ft Lauderdale

Pros- weather- no snow tires, heavy coats or sweaters that make you look fat, close to the beach (10 minutes), very close to WDW-3 hours, lots of fun, the dolphjins, Marlins, Panthers, the theatres, restaurants, hotel, ports (no flying to get to a cruise), international airports, basically-it's a city!

Cons- weather-sometimes it's too hot to live!!!! Being so far south- it takes about 10 hrs to drive out of FL! Then again, I haven't left the state in years!! Who wants to when WDW is so close?

Suburb 20 minutes outside Boston Mass.

Pros: Close to the city to enjoy when I want but far enough to be away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Good size city but made up of 14 villages which give it a town feeling.

Cons: Very expensive. If my parent's hadn't bought this house in 1963 no way could I afford to live here now.

Pros- I live in a relatively quiet and quaint part of town, but am very near 2 cities (10min from Providence, 1hr from Boston).
Unlike where I grew up (20min away), I can afford houses here.
The best Italian restaurants and delis in the area.

Cons - it snowed today

small TX town

pros:decent weather most of the time, usually safe

cons:not much action outside of flea market and yard sales, tornado season

Pros-multiracial, multicultural, rural agricultural community (don't say it too loud but over half our population commutes to Silicon Valley-75 min.) Great weather..moderate climate. 30 minutes to the beach, hour to metro activities.. but we do ok for entertainment here in town. Fresh fruits and veggies are abundant! summertime is garlic and tomatoes so it often smells like marinara when you go by the cannery! LOL The strawberry stands are open now! YUMMY!!

Cons- housing costs are escalating.. $350,000 for a 1700sqft home. Our schools are a bit crowded.. but they are working on upgrades. Traffic isn't bad here in town.. but M-F commute from San Jose can be a bear.. however the 101 freeway is under expansion!

A tiny town in Western Maine...

Pros: Virtually no crime, gorgeous forests and mountains, good school system, no traffic, and plenty of room for the dogs to run.

Cons: Near total dependence on tourism, which means not a lot of really great jobs. Plus, of course, the tourists - can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

Daisy;)

Pros - Great weather, incredible water, no traffic, beautiful scenery, great golf courses, good restaurants and fun bars, cheap rum and cigarettes :D :D.

Cons - HURRICANES, high food prices and very limited selections, Third World government, limited cultural activities, alot of racism, horrible public schools, casino.

Richmond, VA

Pros -- convenient 2 hour drive from the beach, the mountains, DC, and LOTS of historical sites (many Civil War sites, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Jamestown, Monticello) in that area. Two theme parks (Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens) approx. an hour away. Decent cost of living. Atlanta Braves AAA minor league team :teeth:. Rush hour traffic is relatively decent.

Cons -- High crime rate within the city itself (but gets better the farther you get into the suburbs). The Richmond City Council. Racial issues. Air fare in and out of Richmond International (RIC) higher than average (no low-cost carrier like Airtran or Southwest currently flying here).

Toss-up -- most major concert tours have bypassed Richmond in the past, but that's been changing, with Cher and Springsteen recently and the Eagles coming up. Not much in the way of high-class shopping right now, but two upscale malls are opening later this year with Sax Fifth Avenue in one and Nordstrom in the other.

Weather sucks, no mountains, no ocean, over 1000 miles to any Disney park. Now for the bad stuff: Plenty of backwards thinking rednecks and an economy based on what will surely be failing in the near future. People are nice until you get into any discussion about progressive views in any area.

There is minimal traffic, and you get a really nice house for around 100K.

Pro
Mild winters
close but not to close to WDW
30 min from Atlanta... museums, zoo etc
Fairly rural area
Affordable realestate
45 min to the mountains

Con
Hot humid summer
Atlanta Traffic
Urban spral is coming (number of homes in unincorporated Cherokee Co. are projected to increase by 50% in the next 3 years)
Horrible schools

City just to the north of Dallas

Pros: lots of shopping and great restaurants, Fort Worth, friendly people, decent prices for homes, good schools, snows only rarely, easy to fly to anywhere.

Cons: a long drive to almost anywhere, bad traffic, a lack of trees in our area, hotter than blazes in the summer.

Another pro, it's in Texas. :teeth:

Cons:LANDLOCKED... Expensive to get to the lower 48 states, lack of jobs, lack of doctors (and once again, we're landlocked so we can not just drive to the next city).

Pros:Beautiful, low crime rate. Love my job
