what are the options for paying for your vacation?

We are planning a 7 night vacation for this time next year 2010.

We have not reserved or paid anything yet and we have some questions about the best way to go about it.

1. when you make a reservation do you have to pay anything up front or give your CC#?

2. can you pay for your vacation in monthly installments or lump sum chunks?

3. if you can pay it in installments, how does that work? do you just pay over the phone or online?

4. does the vacation have to be paid off before you can start making restaurant ADRs?

Thank you!

If you get or have a Disney Visa, you are allowed to charge your trip interest free for 6 months. That means you can calculatte your own payment and pay monthly - same as cash. You also earn Disney dollars (1 per each hundred charged) which you can spend at Disney. Otherwise, if you just book direct you need to make a minimum of a $200 deposit and must pay in full 45 days prior. PM me if you have any questions about the Disney Visa! Good Luck

When you book a package you put down the $200 deposit. The final balance is due 45 days prior to the arrival.

You can make installment payments if you'd like instead of doing one lump sum. I know online you can make a credit card payment of as little as $25 towards your reservation.

I think it actually makes it much easier if you book in advance and just pay $100 or so a month until it's paid off. It definitely makes it much easier to swallow than calling in a $3000 payment! :rotfl:

Once you book, your reservation confirmation will have all the payment, modification, and cancellation rules in fine print. Make sure you read through everything -- they do a good job with spelling it out.

Also agree that you do not have to be paid in full prior to making ADR's.

Please note that $200 deposit is required for a package reservation with full payment 45 days out. A room-only reservation is different and requires 1 night's deposit and the rest due at check-in.

All is correct if you book a vacation package. The $200 deposit as well as payment in full 45 days before. If you book a room only the deposit is 1 night stay. You do not pay the balance until arrival, not sure if you can make payments on this type of reservation. I always keep the money in a savings account to gain interest even when we book a package and receive the 6 months zero interest with Disney Visa. I just make the minimum payment (and any additional amts I charge so I don't pay interest on anything) You can also cancel a room only up to 5 days before if the reservation is made over the phone.

I forgot to answer the last question...

You do not have to be paid in full in order to make your ADR's.

HTH

There are only a few ADRs that are paid up front like the Hoop dee doo and luau as well as a meal at the castle. These are the only ones I can think of.

Just to answer the above bolded...yes, you can make payments with this type of reservation. I always make a room only, and then make payments every few months with disney gift cards I earn from various reward sites. But, as stated, you don't have to, you can just pay the balance at check-in.

I use a gift card as my initial one night's down payment also. I pay for my entire trip with gift cards, cash or traveler's checks.

I'm not able to pay online though, have to call in.

THose you dont need to pay upfront either if you are on the dining plan. They will take your CC info just in case you do not cancel within the 24/48 hr time frame but nothing will be charged.

Yes, I realize that but the OP didn't mention being on the plan.
