What are the odds of corona still being an issue in July?

Our trip is Aug 30, so the likelihood of this things continuing is of great interest to me. However, I don't think anybody can have any realistic idea. Who would have thought last week that Italy would be closed for business this week and that the National Guard would be cordoning off an area in Westchester County.

People really need to dig through their explanation of benefits. I just did a search of mine and CFAR is truly CFAR provided I do it up to 48 hours out. There are also no exclusions for pandemic or epidemics in my policy so If I did show up and was denied boarding, I would be covered. Get it as a .pdf or web page and do a search on epidemic or pandemic to see if it's even mentioned, then read through the exclusions.

We're expecting to take the trip but will have to decide for certain about 30 days out as we have a DVC reservation as Plan B. We do have a cruise already booked for July 2021 (Southern Itinerary in July - how stupid is that?!!) so we'll just transfer any monies from a canceled cruise (form Disney or insurance) to that cruise.

When I looked a week ago, it wasn’t covered because it is now a predictable event. This was for a new booking, for a cruise booked about 6 months ago. I didn't do tons of digging, so there could be one out there, but in the 10-ish I looked at that were “cancel for any reason” didn’t cover cancelling for corona virus.
If you buy cancel for any reason my understanding is it covers something as simple as changing your mind.

Oh I remember the trouble I had now, they had to be purchased with XX days of booking the trip, like 14-30. I’m well outside of that. If Again I only looked at about 10 policies, so it could be out there! If you find one that’s under 700ish for a 10K vacation, please let me know! I’d be interested!

We ARE absolutely going, unless we are actually ill at the time of boarding or denied boarding.

I'm just trying to think of contingency plans just in case that does happen.
We are trying to think contingency plans also for a May 29 departure. We've got 4 nights at the Yacht Club before the cruise, and were thinking of a possible extension if we couldn't cruise. However, even if we could get the hotel at the last moment, you wouldn't get any Fast Passes at that point.

It will absolutely still be an issue in July. Some estimates have the US running out of hospital beds by mid-May. I have a cruise booked in October, and the only reason I haven't canceled yet is because I think Disney will cancel it for me.

I just spoke with my travel insurance (Travel Insured). Here is what I asked and what they answered:

1. If I am denied boarding - would I have a claim.
A. Yes, but you have to see an MD immediately.

2. If 1 person out of our 4 people are denied boarding, can we all submit a claim:
A. Yes

3. If we are on our first cruise (RC) and the cruise is quarantined and we miss the next cruise (DCL), do we have a claim:
A. Yes, call ASAP and file your claim ASAP.

So, not sure of approvals or amounts, but makes me feel a little better since these are the scenarios I have been thinking about.

Then cancel for another reason, Cancel for any reason is just that.

No way there are zero exclusions. Their lawyers would never allow that. There are some exclusions written into the policies that allow them to screw people over.

You can cancel because you change your mind. It's more expensive it gives a 75% refund on the non-refundable portion. DCL and all cruise lines sell this insurance and it gives you a 75% travel voucher for another cruise. If you want a 100% refund you have to file a claim and have a valid reason.

Policies have exclusions that are spelled out in the description of benefits, but cancel for any reason is pretty much cancel for any reason. If it isn’t, there would be a list of exclusions listing that.

Never assume. Have you read your policy? Do you understand all the exclusions? Does it say "cancel for any reason"? Are pandemics covered?
We actually have a cruise at the end of May, and recently got a email regarding rebooking through Disney. You have the option to rebook your cruise up to 1 day before departure for a 100% credit within a year, so it really depends on who you booked through.

You are never going to be made 100% whole. They will keep some of your money.

And it’s spelled out when you buy the policy. There are no surprises. If I CAFR, I get 75% back. I know that and would be happy with that. I’d lose a substantial amount more if I didn’t have it and needed to cancel for a non-covered reason.

The way insurance works is to insure against the unknown and unexpected. Throwing in CAFR increases the insurer‘s exposure tremendously so the insured has to have some skin in the game to mitigate the risk.

I don’t want to cancel. I want to fly and cruise. But I know I have a safety net which makes me more likely to commit to the travel in the first place. Win-win.

How can there be no surprises when the policies aren't written in plain English? You can ask 5 lawyers to review your policy and you will get 6 different opinions on what is covered. If the lawyers can't read the policies and agree on what is covered how is some normal person going to be able to figure out what is covered?

We're talking about insurance policies, not the policy regarding cancellation/rebookings.

The policies are legally binding for the insurance companies and they are written in English. Really not that hard for a literate consumer to read & understand. They can't promise one level of coverage, in bold, and then in tiny print somewhere else state in legalese language that it isn't really covered. That would be fraud and it's illegal. Any exclusions to a policy are required to be stated clearly, up front.

I purchased a Cancel for Any Reason policy last year (which promised 75% of costs back for a cancellation with no reason given, in addition to being able to get 100% back if I could prove a covered cause), and I ended up having to cancel the trip, but for a reason that wouldn't have been covered for the 100%. So, I called the insurance company and told them I was cancelling for any reason. Didn't need to give a reason. Submitted the required documentation, which was only the receipts/proof of purchase for the trip, and proof that I cancelled. Within a few weeks I had my 75% back in my bank account.

It was easy. No lawyers needed, it wasn't rocket science. That is how Cancel For Any Reason works. Btw I also cancelled a different trip for a covered reason within the past year (it was a rocky year for me), and got 100% back (yes, every single penny) after submitting the required documentation. That one required a bit more paperwork, but it wasn't complicated at all.
