I have to admitt that with all the trips I've made to WDW, I've only been to AK one time. I've done the Safari, the River thingy :), and the Dinosaur ride. I think it got just too darn hot and we eventually left after that.

What are the other attractions that one should definately not miss at AK? DS who's 14 wants to skip the park entirely this time. But DH has never been there and I'm torn between going and not going.

Please helpe me make up my mind!!

Have you tried "It's Tough(?) to be a Bug" 3D show thingie?

We have been to WDW many times and the AK is not out favorite either. We do not spend a lot of time there but we do like The Lion King, Tarzan Rocks, and It's tough to be a bug. That is about all we do there because it is one of the hottest parks. Have a great trip!

Festival of the Lion King for sure. It's the best Disney show I've seen!:D

Festival of the Lion King (I'd see it 2 or more times a trip if DH would let me!)

The forest trek in Asia - the pangeia one? (I forget the spelling) The tigers there are AWESOME!

Of course the safari and the jungle trek after that...the monkey/gorillas are fascinating to watch IMO.

Animal Kingdom is a "stress free" environment...it's a place to stroll...not rush around to attractions like in the MK. There are plenty of little walking paths and places to cool off on hot days.

Oh - and the street performers in Harambe are great!

Our MUST DOs at AK are:

Safari
Dinosaur
It's Tough to Be a Bug
Festival of the Lion King show (not to be missed!)

Dinosaur
Legend of the Lion king
Safari

We took our DD (9 then) and DS (3 then) to see it's tough to be a bug. It's sprays water on you. They spent the next week asking "is this ride going to spray me?" and they HATED it. These kids are not afraid of the dark or roller coasters.

We were at AK last week and loved it. You have to go to the park with the idea that this is a relaxing day to wander trails, see the animals and go to the shows. The rides, although they are great, are secondary. A lot of people do this park in half a day, but we loved spending the whole day, taking our time and riding the rides twice. You can't be rushed or you will miss so many of the animals on the trails! Our favorites are in order-

Safari Ride- ride it twice- you'll see different animals each time.
Maharajah Jungle Trek
Festival of the Lion King Show
Flights of Wonder Show
Kali River Rapids
Pangani Forest Trail
Primeval Whirl
Dinosaur
It's Tough to be a Bug

Its Tough to Be a Bug is priceless and nice and cool inside.

Kilamanjaro Safaris is always a good one. My tip on this is everyone always told me to go in the early morning when its cool and the animals are out, and I rarely saw anything. Well I started going at high noon when its baking hot and I have seen a lot more animals since then.

I also enjoyed Kali River Rapids (get the Fastpass).

If your son is anything like mine (who is also 14), he will appreciate Tarzan Rocks. The stunts that the 'monkeys' on rollerbaldes do are great!! I think I heard the word "awesome" many times during that show!! :teeth:

Dinosaur and It's Tough to be a Bug. Dinosaurs and bugs are an unbeatable combination!::yes::

Our must-do's are Lion King, Safari, Tough to be a Bug, and Dinosaur. I can see how Tarzan would appeal to teens -- for the women in the audience, you'll want to sit right up front as Tarzan is, shall we say, 'buff' and half-naked. The treks are fun if you don't rush through them -- some really big bats and spiders and other such things, not what I would have called a 'must-do' but fun for kids. We're split on Kali -- some consider it a 'must-do' while others 'must shop'.

Have fun!

We only make it a point to see the Safari, Dinosaur and It's Tough to be a Bug. My personal favorite is the Maharajah Jungle Trek and we usually save it for last. My son did insist on going on Primevil Whirl twice in a row last time. If we're in the park late enough, the parade is really nicely done.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Discovery Island Trails. Great place to stroll, get close up looks at the Tree of Life and soak in the "feeling" of AK.

AK is one of my favorite parks as well. It's definitely not one to be rushed through, but stroll through and enjoy the beauty of it. One attraction I think is definitely worth stopping for is the Flight of Wonders show. We have actually been twice and enjoyed it both times. The first time was quite a pleasant surprise, because I really wasn't expecting much out of a show about birds.

HTH and have a magical trip!
