What are the going Babysitting rates?

My youngest is 12 and she will be allowed to keep nearby neighbor children only when I am home to start out. This is how my oldest started out & as she got older and got more confident she branched out & started charging a little more. The parents that she sits for seem very happy with those rate in my area.

Wow, 12?? My friends daughter is 12 and she still hires a babysitter to watch HER nevermind letting her watch others LOL!!

My dd 13 (just turned April) has been babysitting for about a year and she gets paid $5 an hour (doesn't seem to differ with more kids).....Seems to be the going rate around here for 7, 8, 9 th grades....I think it goes to about $7/8 for older high schoolers...but I haven't had a babysitter in years as my dd has done my babysitting....

I pay 5 dollars an hour....It is crazy IMHO to pay more than the min wage for babysitting. If I were to pay more I would not leave with out kids to go out more than 5 is way rich for my taste.

never went out

Wow, never? That is so sad. I hope you get to go out soon. There's a whole other life beyond kids,:D Really, when my 2 were younger, DH and I always made it a point to have some tme away from the kids. Its healthy for the adults, but the kids really need it too. Too much togetherness is not healthy. JMHO

Prices sure have increased. WHen my 2 were younger we paid about 4.00 p/h. But when I babysat (many moons ago) I made about 3.00 - 4.00 for the entire evening LOL

All of you who get free babysitting from relatives are SO lucky! We NEVER have this, unless there's surgery involved! Lots of family around, but no offers.

We pay our great babysitter $10/hour, and of course always round up. I also usually get her dinner and her favorite dessert. My children (9 and 3) are not easy kids. Our sitter is in college, and couldn't be better. Everything is in place when we get home.

She's well worth it!

I've had sitters in the past who should have paid ME instead!

We also pay $5-$6 an hour for our babysitter -- who thankfully is home from college for the summer because DS adores her. :) :)

My daughter sits for a number of families on the same block. She makes at least $10 an hour. She's babysitting between 30 and 40 hours every week this summer so she'll be in good shape when she goes back to school in the fall!

For a teen with little or no experience and no add-ons (like first aid, cpr, babysitting course, etc.) it's $6/hour. If the teen has more experience then I'll go as high as $8/hour.

For the teachers from DD's old daycare I pay $10-12/hour...most of them have college degrees in childcare, certified in CPR/First aid, can drive themselves to my house, have been CORI'ed by their employer, etc.

I pay $10 an hour. I have two children, 4 and 6 years old.

How lucky am I? I have a 17 yr old babysitter, who lives across the street. ( Excellent to know that her parents are only a moment away.) She also has 2 sisters who are also teens!! Yipee, we are all set as far as babysitters!!!

Did I mention that the 17 year old is enrolled in the child care program at the high school! I am sooo lucky!!::yes::
