What are the chances?

We are going to Disney in August of 2008. We are a family of five so we will be booking 2 rooms at Pop. Even though I'm itching to, I have not booked the trip yet. I can't decide between a room-only ressie, or a package. We will be staying for 12 nights at the end of August (last two weeks) and plan to get five 10 day tickets with park hoppers and water park add ons, and NO dining (we thought about adding the deluxe dining but the quote from Disney cured me of that right quick).

Anyway, I have never paid too much attention to the code patterns before. What do you think the chances are of Disney offering a code (public or otherwise) for this time period? Wasn't there one this year for 40% off room only? Is there a better chance of a room only discount, or a package? What has been the pattern over the last few years?

Have you checked to see if your vacation falls within the Wonderful Weeks of Disney? If they do, your rooms will be discounted for that time period. The 2008 dates (but not the discounted rates) are online but Disney Reservations doesn't have them in their system yet.

Five of my 9 nights fall within the Wonderful Weeks of Disney. I found this online while I was on hold for Disney reservations. When I told the CM about the dates, she said they weren't in their system yet but I could check back in a week or two. As soon as the 2008 Wonderful Weeks of Disney is in their system, they will go back and give me the five nights at the WWD discounted rate!

To find the dates, go to www.disneyworld.com. Click on Tickets & Reservations. On the next screen, you will see Wonderful Weeks of Disney on the left hand side. Click on it. The Wonderful Weeks of Disney calendar will be on the left side of the next screen. Click the calendar over to August, 2008. The WWD dates show up in an orange color.

Not so fast pilgrim. My 2007 August trip also falls under the WWOD (Aug. 15-24) and we didn't get much of anything. We finally got offered a slight room only discount savings $15 a night. The WWOD for this part of August were excluded from the free dining and also excluded from the special 40% pin code that came out. So just because your week falls in this catagory, it is not a sure deal at all. Me and lots of folks like me are proof of that. We ended up using DVC points since the deals were very slim pickings for the WWOD for August 2007. Good luck for 2008.

Do they automatically apply a discount if your dates fall under the WWOD? We have our trip planned for Jan 11-21 which is in those dates. I already have a AAA discount applied to our ressie. Would they apply another one?

No you have to monitor any discounts. If you see one that offers a better deal, you then have to choose which one you want to use. You can not stack discounts. I'll be watching for an AP discount for January 26th, so hopefully by October something might pop up.

Last year, three of our days fell in the Wonderful Weeks of Disney and I received a room discount even though I had a package with dining. The discount was around $10.00 per night.

When I called earlier this week, I was told that I would, indeed, be eligible to receive the Wonderful Weeks of Disney discount for the five nights that fall within that week. I have a package booked this year too.

I'll take any kind of discount I can get.

Oh, by the way, last year, they had the free ticket upgrade during our stay and I received that too. So, I asked the CM if I would be eligible for that if they offered to again this year and she said absolutely.
