What are the chances of getting through on a waitlist?

Hi Everyone.

I am waitlisted for June at Vero Beach. Before I buy my flight tickets, I need to know for sure I have the ressie. How often do the waitlists come through for Vero? Also, if it doesn`t happen, the points I borrowed will return to me,correct? But if I cancel, I lose them? Still learning.... thanks.:confused3

A waitlist doesn't actually use points until it fills. Did you set it up to end 31 days before or 7 days? At the point you are certain you don't want to chance it if it hasn't filled you will want to cancel the waitlist and your points won't have been affected at all.

Another option would be to check for member discount cash rooms and reserve those for backups if you definitely want to go. I'd also keep checking for individual days and book them if available - modifying the waitlist. I needed to add a VB Inn room for May. One day I called and they had 2 of the 3 days and the 1 day at discounted cash. I didn't waitlist at the time since I needed to try and switch an AKV ressie and when I called back the next day they had all 3 days for VB.

Thank you Kathy, At least that sounds somewhat promising. What I can`t figure out is, if they don`t have the rooms for points, how can they have them available for cash? Do they only spare a certain amount for DVC?

I have two days June 1st and 2nd. garden view deluxe inn room. I am on a wait list for studios but have yet to get them. I hope they still have my wait list going. I guess this is a busy time?:confused3

Cash rooms are available for a few reasons. First the Developer retains some inventory that they can use when they take rooms out of service for refurbs etc. Or they can be rented out for cash.

Second - when a VB owners trades out for cruises, non-DVC resorts, World Passport etc. then the rooms are rented out to "pay" for the VB owners trade.

Another thing is that if a room is not reserved 60 days before then it is turned over to CRO to be rented for cash that will then be allocated towards the resort expenses - offsetting dues. Supposedly those rooms can be recovered for point stays but I'm not certain how that works out.

DVC gets the majority of the resort - but in essence - when you see a cash room it's usually b/c the owner is using their points, and in essence the room, for some other stay outside of DVC and that bill needs to get paid.

One other thing is that if you reserve a cash room you will be able to cancel that (I think it's either 5 or 7 days prior to check-in) without penalty. You could reserve cash to guarantee a room and keep trying for a points room.

Hope something works out!
