What are the chances of "critters" (bugs, snakes, lizards etc.)getting into your ground floor room?

We, thanfully, have never had any issues with finding any yucky things in our rooms when whether we had ground floor or upper rooms but I am wondering if any of you book upper floors to avoid this possibility and what the chances are of finding a God forbid, snake:earseek: , lizard or other unwelcome things like bugs etc... in yoru room?
This year we are staying at POFQ for the first time. I wanted to request upper floors to avoid this possibilty. My husband doesnt think it's that great of a possibility and prefers ground floor because it's eaiser to go to your room after a long day rather than climbing stairs etc... I told him that they do have elevators. :surfweb:

Well, we had a "palmetto bug" (ROACH) in our club level room (5th floor) at Beach Club. It made its way up there, so I'm guessing
1st floor would be easier, lol

I admit I am one who requests to be anywhere other than first floor. I never used to do that, but all it took was for me to read a report about a snake in a first floor room. I know critters can appear in any room regardless of floor level, but it just makes me feel better making a request to not be on the first floor :).

A couple years ago we were first floor at CBR and while we were always making interesting discoveries of creatures outside, we never found any inside :)

It's been years since we were in a first floor room, but we never had any unexpected guests. However, the idea of one never crossed my mind until now so all I want is an upper floor now! LOL

I am completely terrified of finding a bug in the room, not that worried about snakes or lizards. Snakes aren't really a problem around here though, they never cross my mind.

But I have stayed on the first floor at BC, WL, POR, and Pop several times and never found anything in the room. I will say, I didn't use my patio at WL because I was scared there might be some spiders in the bushes out there that I did not want to encounter.

Unfortunately with bugs, I don't think it really matters what floor you're on. If they want in, they'll get in. Snakes are probably a different story.

they all scare me. But if I saw a snake I would completely lose it!:scared::faint:

It's Florida so yes the likelihood of you getting a palmetto bug is moderate at least (all floors are susceptible). They are harmless as are the lizards. The only thing i would worry about are bedbugs.

Heyl now, I happen to love bugs and lizards and some snakes, yes I am a girl, hehe. However, I always like having a second or higher floor level so not to have people dancing on my ceiling ;)

I don't think the chances of getting such a thing in your room are too great on any level.

Whenever we stay at a resort with ground floor rooms, I request an upper floor. At Poly CL in January, they were not able to accommodate our request, but had already upgraded us to a ground floor lagoon view room! I felt a little silly being concerned about the ground floor because the upgrade was so wonderful. I showed our teenagers how to open and close the sliding door quickly so that we wouldn't allow any unwanted visitors in the room. (And their little brother had to ask for help, as an extra precaution.)

Literally the day we checked in, even with careful door operation, a lizard ran in! I went to call for assistance, but the kids had a great time chasing and capturing the lizard and then setting it free outside. They still talk about how fun that was.

Story time: I saw a lizard on the wall when I stayed at Alligator Bayou back in my kid days. It didn't move all week and I thought it was fake. Guess what? When you touch it, it moves... Eeeek!

If I found any type of living thing other than a human in our room, I would call the hotel main desk and ask for another room.

Really. It's Florida not Park Avenue. There are bugs and creatures. Just outside your door at POR you could find a large bull frog and hear them at night. I'd be surprised to not see them around.

Maps show elevators in all buildings at POFQ.

Florida = plenty of wildlife that can access rooms, particularly on first floor with bushes so close to buildings.

In 2013 we had a palmetto bug in our 2nd floor room at POR.. It was a royal room and our last night there was not so royal lol we were screaming and couldn't find it, but we initially saw it crawl up one of the beds so we did not want to stay our last night in that room.. Those things move fast and I knew I would never be able to sleep at night knowing it was still in the room. They moved us right across the building we were in so we just had to grab our stuff and move. We were screaming because it looked like a roach- I never knew they were called palmetto bugs in FL lol. I hate critters and insects.. HATE!! So I always ask for an upper floor but I know they can get into even those so I just check everything and make sure the door shuts quickly.
