What are Nine Year Old Girls Into?

My DD9 also is tough when it comes to the whole toy thing. About the only "toys" she plays with are her American Girl dolls, which is a staple on the Christmas list. This year she won't be getting much because she will be in Disney on Christmas. She really loves country music, so CDs are also a great gift for her. Last year she got concert tickets to see Martina McBride (who is a great role model for girls and women of any age) and when we went to the concert we were upgraded to front row tickets (that was a nice bonus present). Clothes are also something she always gets. We do allow LimitedToo, but I have to approve of everything because there is a lot in there that is not age appropriate. She likes the game Clue (she has a Disney Haunted Mansion version of Clue) and wants the game Apples to Apples. It just seems to me that at age 9, they are so much more grown up than I was at age 9. I'm just happy she still has an innocense left to her and that she doesn't like boys. Good luck buying presents OP. Oh I would never buy my DD Bratz dolls either. There is just something about them that I can't stand.

My DD8 (9 in March), loves anything creative. For Christmas, I've gotten her Designer something plug in game, it's from the makers of Dream Life. She's also into music, so a MP3 player would be a great gift. She loves the BRatz, and I'm happy to buy them b/c she really play with them and uses her imagination. She loves fashion, and I find nothing wrong with it. I love to see her using her imagaination. Does she want to dress like a Bratz? Well, sometimes, but she knows she can't,and that's the end of that!

Craft kits, scrapbooking kits, etc are good choices. She's also getting a DS Lite,with a few games for Christmas.

BTW, we cut off tv too. We haven't had anything but videos for 3 weeks and our family is closer than ever! It's amazing!

Depending where you livei n the country....how about a bus trip to the American Girl Place? There's several of them going on here in Delaware and it's quality mom/daugther time.

I also recommend the Nitendo DS and get some of the games with it like the puppy, Little Mermiad, etc.

My daughter is turning 9 tomorrow! We got her Glowey the bear, (he has a wand sold seperately), Nintendo DS with a game called nintendogs, a type of weaving loom to make scarfs and hats with, dance dance revolution, trivial purtsuit for kids, and carpet sliders (skates for the carpet), earings, and a build a bear outfit. My dd is 9 and I am trying to figure out what she'd like for Christmas. she used to like Barbie, but all of a sudden its "not cool". She seems to like American Girl and I've ordered her Molly for Christmas (Emily can come visit later, maybe at Easter). However, all of sudden she seems to have changed here interests. Seems all she's interested in is Bratz (which I refuse to get her), Lindsay Lohan, and Hanna Montana. She's especially crazy about Hanna Montana. Honestly, she's 9 years old. Seems she's trying to grow up too fast. I refuse to buy her stuff that, in my opinion, is better suited for a teenager. What are other 9 year old girls into? I just don't think those toys are appropriate role models for a girl her age. Also, we've turned off the tv . We only allow it on weekends. Seems she was way too wrapped up insome shows I found inappropriate, such as That's so Raven, Cheetah Girls, Hannah Montana, etc. She was trying to live through the TV, that is, she really thinks everyone dresses like those shows, talks and acts like them, etc. It was just a bad influence. She was saying things like "Everyone wears those type of clothes". I pointed out to her that "everyone" at her school is dressed just like her, WalMart and Target type clothes, not all bangles and sequiens, etc. I can't even take her shopping for clothes, I just bring home what I think is appropriate, otherwise she heads right for all that glitter and bangles and insists this is what she needs to fit in socially. I'm tired of meltdowns in the stores over trying to dress like characters from the TV. Believe me, she's not ruined socially! I set limits on her clothing, and that's it. However, I would like some suggestions for toys, etc., for Christmas that a girl her age would like and would also pass the "Mom" test--no dolls that look like street walkers!

I realize she's at an age where she's trying to find a role model of sorts to latch onto. Girls that age are insecure and trying to feel their way. I know, I was a 9 year old once, too! However, the roll models she's latching onto aren't appropriate for her age. I'm sick of her thinking she's Hanna Montana! Besides American Girl, are there other toys, dolls, etc., that would be better suited to her age group? Thanks!

My daughter is totally into POKEMON! It's so funny! She loves the games for her nintendo DS and she collects the cards...reads the books...she even dressed up as MewToo for hallloween on Tuesday. She also loves The Littlest Pet Shop..she wants the new "big" one for xmas. We're getting her a digital camera, a build a bear gift card, and disney dollars. She knows that our upcoming Disney World trip is costing a lot..so she's very understanding about not having a huge bunch of gifts this year!

My daughter is into all those Disney shows too. (I can hear That's so Raven on in the kitchen...thought dd went outside to play--lol) I struggle with the toys too, I don't like it when stuff doesn't get played with. She's asking for Bratz, but already has plenty IMO. She likes arts and crafts, so I picked up an oragami kit and I've seen some new Crayola kits like cutters with fashion designs, etc. Also, a couple Christmases ago we started doing certificates for her. Like a 'girls day out' where we went out to lunch and to window shop. Then she got a 'daddy date day' where they went to an indoor play area. I've also given her a certificate where she got to choose an activity like piano lessons, gymnastic, swim lessons, etc. Those seem to work well.
