What are my options?

Received word today that I well be receiving 300 BCV October 2002 points with new (2 x 150) contracts. Paper work may be sent me in the next couple of days but I do not know when the points will be available to:
"Use" (we are going in October and no plans for an earlier trip),
"Rent/Transfer ( may be to late to rent by the time the paper work changes hands).
So 300 points will expire in about 6 weeks on September 30th .

We do have another contract at BCV of 200 / 50 points with an April Use Year. 37 points remaining for this year.

Any suggestions would be appreciated on how to salvage all or part of these points.

In a similar circumstance, I had good luck with the rent/trade board. The points can only be used for stays at DVC resorts (and I believe other resorts at Disney). Reservations can be made as soon as you get your paperwork sent back (perhaps even earlier if they get things into the system for you). The points WILL NOT be able to be transferred to another member until you actually close, so the greatest flexibility will be in actually renting rather than transferring (i.e., you make a reservation for someone rather than transferring the points so they can make their own reservation).

Are you buying direct form Disney? If so call and see if they will allow you to bank immediately the entrie amount as part of the closing process. I remember a paper in my closing package that provided that option, but only as part of the closing process.

Otherwise, you might need to suffer through an extended trip to WDW with your new points

Renting is an option because if you bought direct from Disney, I believe the contracts can be in the system before you close to make reservations. We made our first resrevations when we paid our deposit.

Is this something you discuss with your GUIDE when she prepares the contract or someone else ? She has already told me that I would need to use these by the end of September and did not give me any other options.

They refused to allow me to bank the points in this circumstance. You are well past all banking deadlines. My pleas fell on deaf ears. My guide was polite, but very firm on this.

Now. The those 300 points that expire in 6 weeks. You might consider finding out what's available out there. With time running down, if you're going to look for a renter, there may be no time left to actually rent anything. There will always be a buyer...but it depends on the price. I don't know the average time required to find a buyer. Discounting these points would certainly hurry up the process. Also, consider posting them out on eBay...see who bites!

Would it be feasible to check the available accomodations and make a ressie with them and try to sell the ressie? On such short notice, that might actually be a simpler way to go. I have never rented out, so I don't know if folks do that or not. It was just a thought

I don't know if you have enought time, but you might try to do an II swap. That way you have 2 years to use the points. Dean and other experts on II exchange should be able to help. Or if you are buying from Disney, use the Magical Beginings, at least you will get $10 x 300 or $3K off the price.
