Hi - I posted another question today about waitlisting. We are new to this and want to know what are day by day reservations? Would this help me to get the dates I need- 12/8-14 of this year (at any resort, any studio, 1 bd, 2 bd), we already have 12/14 and 12/15 at OKW in a 2 bd. What happens if I happen to be able to reserve 12/13 at OKW 2 bd one day and then the next I get 12/11 reserved at OKW (2 bd)- does this mean I have the same room or would I have to move rooms for each reservation I have?? I don't understand and I need help on how improve my chances of getting the rest of the days I need!! PLease advise.

Hi again (I replied on your other post as well).

Day-by-day reservations mean each day is booked as a separate reservation. Folks tend to book day-by-day starting at the 11-month window for popular times (i.e. first two weeks of Dec, holidays) so that they know they have a room for that night. When they have booked each day individually, they have Member Services (MS) "link" all nights together so they will not have to change rooms each night.

Booking day-by-day might help you get your reservation faster for this Dec trip since it's easier to get one night than it is to get six nights. But if certain nights do not come through, then you will have to check out of your room, go to another room (wherever you have a reservation for that night) and then come back to OKW but you will most likely have a different unit than the original one.

For example, if you have 3 nights reserved at OKW 2br, 1 night OKW studio, and 2 night SSR 1br, you'll switch hotel rooms three times. If it's just the two of you, it might not be that bad.

Any consecutive nights that you have booked that are at the same resort and same type of room, can be linked so that you don't have to move for those nights.

Good luck!

Hi. Can I ask, if you book night by night at 11 month window (as I intend to do in Jan 2008 for first week of Dec 2008), and at the end of the week (I intend booking for a week) I link these reservations, will they still only charge me the amount of points listed in the points table as "weekly" and not for 5 weekday nights and 2 weekend nights - which would use more points, even though I have booked all these nights individually? Thanks

It should be the same number of points either way.

Which dates are you going and where are you staying and what type of room?

Yeah, you're right. Mrs Thickie just read it wrong!!! Thank you anyway for your prompt reply:thumbsup2

Okay, thanks for the info. I think I'll call MS tomorrow and see if I can get single day reservations and maybe if I check several times a day each day, eventually I'll get all the days I need, but I don't want to change resorts more than twice (it is me, DH, 3 kids (ages 1, 2, and 5)- so I don't mind moving once, but not more than that. I still don't understand how MS can link reservations so that I don't have to move rooms. For example, if I have Dec. 14 and 15 reserved at OKW (2 bd) under one ressie, then I manage to get 12/13 at OKW (2bd)- MS can link this ressie so that I don't have to move rooms??

Yes. For those three nights (12/13, 12/14, 12/15).

I'm not quite sure how they do it. That's probably a good question to ask them.

You can book a day-by-day reservation as one reservation for N nights rather than N reservations for one night each. When you call the first time, tell the MS CM you are starting a day-by-day reservation. He/she records your real check-out date and makes a note to hold the confirmation letter until the reservation is complete. On subsequent calls, tell the CM you want to modify your day-by-day reservation to add one more night. When you have added the final night, the CM releases the confirmation letter. You will end up with one reservation, one confirmation number and one confirmation letter. The only reason I can think of for booking it as N separate reservations is if you intend to try to change the reservation 7 months out to something hard to get (such as VWL during the holidays) and want the option to grab whatever nights you can and waitlist for the rest, even if it means risking having to move every other night.
