If you're planning on working with Disney on a professional internship, or hopefully one day perminently, what are your "Disney" type majors? (Sorry, I'm not really certain how to phrase the question. Lol)

I wanted to start this thread becuase I am planning on/ hoping to be apart of the Disney College Program, but am unfortunatly COMPLETELY clueless as to what exactly I'd like to major in. I am currently thinking of either Hotel Managment or Theatre, but in the managment/tech side of it. (If anyone has majored in, or interned in these roles advice would be AMAZING!) I know I'd like to do some costumed roles, but eventually need to do something along the lines of my major, in order to get a professional internship or job after graduating.

So this is a thread for all the past/current/future College Program students, or cast members to share what they've majored in (where they went to college), or do in the Disney Land& World Resorts! :thumbsup2

Sorry if this appears awkward, but I've just been so excited for so long to be apart of the magic of the Disney College Program& it's quite frustrating to be lost in how to get there when it's your dream. I just don't want to pay for anything more than community college without knowing my major, even if Disney offers an undecided option, unfortunatly my community college doesn't offer the internship at all! So it's really detrimental that I decide soon, so I can start applying to colleges! :) (I'm only a senior in high school, but can't wait! :lovestruc)

My major is Hospitality with a concentration in Hotel Management.

My friend is majoring in Communications, so that one could work too.

It took me a couple years to find a major I would truly like, so don't feel like you need to decide right away, take your gen eds first while you think about it, maybe using electives to try different majors.

I myself am a theatrical technician/lighting designer and it's a BLAST... My dream is to one day light shows like Fantasmic!, and the journy getting there is so fun as it is I'm having the time of my life and I highly recommend it if you can see it being your thing :)

I'm majoring in Business Administration. I would be minoring in marketing except my school doesn't offer that as a minior, only a major (and since I want to be well-rounded in business I didn't want to have such a specific concentration for my major).

But I feel like the Disney empire is so vast that almost no matter what your major they would have a job for you. There's the obvious business and communications related majors, but then they also need engineers, artists, zoologists, architects . . . even history experts to ensure accuracy of new themed resorts, parks, rides, etc!

However, in regards to the PI's, I get the sense that a lot of them are business related. Marketing, accounting, Public relations, retail management (aka sales) . . . you get the idea.

I attend a small liberal arts college, and as of right now I'm planning to double major in Art/Art History and English.

My absolute DREAM is to become an Imagineer, and I read somewhere that the one skill you really need in order to do so is the ability to draw and get your ideas down on paper. I mean obviously you need other skills, but not everyone needs to be an engineer/show producer/sound designer/whatever. But they can all draw.

And if, for whatever reason, the whole Imagineering thing doesn't work out :sad1:, then I'll be able to transfer those skills into a number of other career paths that interest me - advertising, graphic design, museum/gallery work, even becoming an English professor.

FWIW, I'd love to do the CP as a character performer, so on that side of things, I'm taking dance lessons at college and getting involved with the campus dance group.

HTH!! :goodvibes

I'm majoring in Communications, and my concentration will be in media. Basically I want to do behind the scenes stuff- writing, editing, sound production. I love it so far! It's a lot of fun and very interesting.

You're doing the right thing though- don't waste huge amounts of money on universities when you can take general education at community college. That's exactly what I'm doing.

If you can't decide you can always mix up your majors: Major in Hospitality and minor in theatre or vice versa. Or you can be brave and double major! For now just take your general education classes and you'll be fine- however, your major might require certain general education classes to be take. You should go ahead with both majors and look at their requirements and take the general education classes those majors require, just in case.

Don't worry about your major- you're definitely not alone! Try to get as much experience as you can with each. Maybe with part-time jobs, volunteering, work some school/community plays, etc. Job shadowing might work too.

Good luck!!

I'm a History & Theatre Arts double major. For the CP, I'm hoping for the Costuming job next fall.

If I ever work for disney, my dream job with them is either with Disney Theatricals (Broadway or the parks, doing stuff like Stage Management or backstage stuff) or the Disney Archives. :)

That's what I was thinking! I'm pretty sure, or atleast my top1 choice right now is a major in Theatre managment/ tech. (The only problem is I'm not sure I'm artistically "capable" enough :confused3 ) Uhhh it's so frustrating! I just want to find ONE college, with BOTH majors I'm leaning towards, so that I can stay undecided until after I do the internship once. I'd be happy being a character my whole life though!!!:lovestruc

[[THANKS FOR THE ADVICE EVERYBODY! IT MEANS THE WORLD THAT EVERYONE IS WILLING TO HELP A STRANGER OUT...IT'S TRULY MAGICAL!:wizard: ...HAHA PUN INTENDED ON THAT ONE! ;) ]]

I'm a mechanical engineering major...I hope to make the CP a first step in the right direction towards a dream job that would be for Imagineering!

Check this out here...it talks about all the diff opportunities for different majors in the CP.... Disney College Program majors

I'm majoring in Computer Science..I would love to be an imagineer, but I just have a love for computers so I would love to work in Attractions or even front dest at one of the hotels full time. Or even for one of Disney's affiliates.

Yay, another History major!! I'm finishing my undergrad and graduating in May, so I can't do the CP until Fall 2010. I'm not sure what my dream job at Disney would be, or even if I'd have one. But if I get in, maybe the experience will introduce some new ideas to me! So far I don't have much professional experience (just part-time jobs during college) so I'm eager to learn a lot if I'm able to go!

Perhaps if I had to pick right now, a job I'd be most interested in at Disney would be somewhere in Event Planning. Disney events are always so detailed and creative, and I'd love to be a part of that.

I know, same here. I don't know if I have a dream job at the parks- unless maybe it was working in one of their shows. I think my dream would lie more in the lines of the production companies and movie making :D Still Disney and still awesome! :yay:

My major is going to be Marketing. It was my minor in college the first time around when I graduated several years ago. *ahem* Not telling my age. Anyway, I'm attending a community college that has a great CP Program and it's with Marketing. I'm also studying Digital Online Media to get a certification in what I do for a living (web content) and planning to get a French certificate.

I would love to do PhotoPass and maybe even some writing for the company!

Hey guys, I'm a Creative Writing Major with a Minor in the Classics, and I work as a Greeter at WDW now, and would eventually like to work as a screenwriter for Disney!

Just so you know, the CP doesnt require any specific major. The majors people come with are just as vast as the people themselves (until Disney changes that of course ;] haha). For instance my major is Criminal Justice & Criminology. But my role is FSFB, and career wise, I'd want to own or manage a restaurant. The point these days is simply having the diploma stating you did it. The PI is where you would need the specific areas of study. But for the general CP all is fair game =]

Im about to graduate with a Bachelors in Tourism Development and Management with a certificate in Convention Sales and Special Event Management.

I got interested in tourism when I was a Jungle Cruise Skipper in California and i'v been hooked since. Seeing the impact you have on people is great.
