what apps do I want for my phone?

One of my favorite features of the lines app is the search menu and browse menu function. I was in Epcot and wanted to know where to go for a cannoli. Pulled up the app and found out I needed to head to the gelato cart in Italy.

That's definitely your problem. I just checked the MDE developer notes, and it requires 5.0 or higher. You might check with your wireless carrier. LG is actually not terrible at providing OS updates, depending on the carrier. For example, the LG G3 shipped with KitKat 4.4 back when it was released in 2014, but has since been updated to Marshmallow (6.0.1) on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

I have an Android 4.1.2, Jellybean, that I got Dec. 2014. I'm guessing I need to upgrade my phone... What would be the best way to try this?

Go to your settings, scroll to the bottom for for System Updates. Follow the directions there. If you do not have a separate System Update item, click on About Phone. It would be there.

It comes back with "Current software is up to date". Does that mean that's all my phone can handle?

Could you explain more about the menu search that lets you see snack credit items? That sounds interesting and worth the subscription fee for us.....

On the Lines home page, scroll down to the Search Menus for Items. Then click Modify Advanced Search Filters. Then check the box for Only Show DDP Snacks. Select park and then Search.
Thanks for answering @Dan Murphy ... i'm currently IN the world and didn't have access to my computer when the question was posted., was hoping someone would jump in to provide the info!

I have an app not listed yet: Dining for Walt Disney World (I also have the DLR version). It lists menus for every restaurant in every park, the water parks, Disney Springs and every resort. It even has all of the carts in the theme parks and lets you search by type of food or your location.

I have a Touring Plans subscription (purchased on their website) and have used it on my computer. Do I have to pay for the app also, or if you have the subscription does it come with the app? If so, how do I get it on my phone? TIA!

Not sure if you're a beer drinker, but there are two apps to have if so: untappd (Android and iOS) and Beers and Ears (iOS).

untappd is pretty much like the old school Foursquare app but you check into beers instead of venues. Drinking certain beers (stouts, IPAs, Lagers, etc.) and doing certain actions (take # of photos, toast friend check-ins, etc.) can unlock cool badges to show off on your profile but the app is simply a beer log. I had a lot of fun using this at F&W.

Beers and Ears allows you to find locations serving beer near you in Walt Disney World. If you don't have an iOS device, I think you can use their website to pick a beer you want to drink and it'll tell you the locations where that beer is being served at WDW.

I have an older Samsung phone that is not compatible with MDE too. Just use the website on the browser on your phone. I did this in November and had no problems changing FP+ or adding 4th, 5th.. ones. Just a tip, if you want to book an FP+ but the time is not exactly when you prefer, take what you can get and just keep refreshing, better times do pop up. I moved all the new ones I booked to the time I wanted just needed to keep checking.

I wouldn't buy a new phone just for the MDE app, the website/browser works fine

The Touring Plans app is in the Google Play store, I installed it on my phone and logged in using my TP credentials. Loved the lines app.

I have several apps, but I use Lines the most. I only use MDE to check on FP or ADR's.

The TP Lines app requires the subscription to get wait times? Is it worth the $14.95 or whatever?

So worth it! I love that site. It is a drop in the bucket for all of the other costs a Disney trip incurs.

The Touring Plans Lines app is user-driven... the wait-times are actual --for example right now i can see that someone has posted the "posted" wait time for Pirates was 40 minutes but their ACTUAL wait time was 29 minutes.
There is also a section that tells you which FP+ are still available
Menu search that lets you see snack credit items
If you've created a touring plan you can see it or follow one of their canned ones.

This! Their wait times are just so much more accurate than MDE.

This is awesome. My brother and husband will LOVE this. Thanks for sharing!
