Lauri and I made it back from WDW today, and I have to say that we both had a great time at the Pin Celebration. It was great meeting everyone that we had not had a chance to meet before and it was great seeing everyone we've met again.
The Great Pin Adventure was great and exhausting at the same time. Oddly enough, the bad weather during the evening WIWIs was directly proportional to the number of people at the WIWIs -- Wednesday we had at least 60 at the Boardwalk and it stormed (and blew in on us standing under the canopy near the pin cart); Thursday about 15 were there for the Jungle Cruise (probably THE weirdest Jungle Cruise ever) and it sprinkled; Friday about 100 turned out for the Contemporary pin meet and it stormed so bad they shut down the monorails. I was a little worried that Saturday would involve a sudden hurricane.
We had a fantastic crowd at the Swan for the Great Pin Adventure. I don't think we have an official count, but at least 150 were there at any one time. WebmasterAlex was there for a while early and returned later in the evening, and a total of 6 moderators and chat hosts were there -- myself, Lauri, Jeff, Nat, Vince, and Sarangel from the Rumors Board. A huge amount of thanks to Randall (SwanDolphin) and Jennifer and Pam on the Swan catering staff for helping us with the arrangements.
And a VERY special thanks to everyone who helped chip in for the room and who participated in the raffle. For those who didn't hear, we had a surprise raffle to get revenge on a shark. Lauri found a shark pinata, stuffed it with candy and a few pins, and raffled it off with the proceeds going to charity. All total, we raised $141.00, which will be donated to Give Kids the World in the memory of Charlie Werner (Pete's father) on behalf of the DIS Collectors Board.
And a final surprise. On Sunday as Lauri, Jeff, Trina, and I were in line to purchase our pins, I spotted Scoop Sanderson, called his name and waved. He saw us and waved Lauri and Jeff over. He called for the crowds' attention and told everyone that when they're feeling down they should remember the smiles on Lauri's and Jeff's faces when they received their Continuing the Traditions Pins!!
Congrats to Lauri and Jeff!!!
